I think it is obscene too, but I also would suggest you disenchanted people think of this differently. These athletes are entertainers. That's why they make so much. You don't see these salaries in minor sports like track or swimming because people are not willing to pay for them. How much do we spend on game attendance, TV, apparel and dedicated sports shows (like ESPN, YES network, FOXsports, etc.)? Did you know that the proportion of revenue that players are getting in baseball has gone down the past few years? So next time you look at ARods contract, think of it as a studio wrapping up George Clooney or Brad Pitt for all their movies for the next 10 years. It's still obscene, but it's the market. And you and I are paying the freight every time we watch a game on TV or in the park, pay our cable bill, buy a branded hat, etc.

Why are they over payed?? Because you werent born with a gift to hit a 100 mile in hour fastball 500 feet or you can't make a 3 pointer in someones face or you cant catch a football running across the field knowing you are going to get killed or deflect a puck traveling 70 miles and hour to score a goal?
If you where A-Rod you would want more money for your kids his kids will never have to work a day in there lives but they will probably still work. Your just another one of those jealous people. Also he does donate in 2004 he did make a donation to the boys and girls cluns of America for 750,000 dollars. Most homeless people don't deserve to get money except for the mental ill ones. The rest are just lazy drug addict people wanting everything givin to them on a silver pladder. Maybe if they get off there lazy a** and get a job they wouldnt be homeless or stop doing all the drugs.

It is an enormous, outrageous amount of money to play a sport. No one should be paid that much. If the Yankees were smart they would pay him a lot less since the only reason he came back to them is that no other team would pay him that much. The Yankees should really lower their offer. That said, it is still CRAZY money to pay anyone. Let's just hope that he does a lot of good with the money. He has more than he can spend and there are many worthy causes he can give to.

I totally agree with everything you said. It's sick to imagine this guy gets paid more in one year than my family will see in a lifetime.
If it wasn't for the teachers that educated him I don't think he would have got that far at all. Sad thing is a lot of us feed in to this entertainment.
Why shouldn't the real heroes get the big money (the police, fire fighters and the teachers). It really doesn't make sense to me. Then again it is a business, a very big one.

Don't agree Sandy, just like other forms of entertainment, baseball is big business. Movie stars can make upwards of $20 million per movie, Tiger Woods will make close to $100 million this year, Micheal Jordan is at $35 million and he is retired, Elvis Presley will make more than A-Rod this year and he is dead. The problem you have is trying to fit A-Rod's compensation into a nice neat little package that makes sense to you and that will not work. Baseball is a $75 billion per year business and A'Rod is fairly compensated for his contributions to his employer.
