I am doing an assignment for my math class and i was wondering why that occurs?

You can blame the ancient Babylonians. They used a base-60 system for their mathematics. They liked 60 because it was evenly divisible by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. When they defined the angles in an equilateral triangle, they made each angle 60 degrees. And a full circle would be 360 degrees.

It is a convention and accepted by all that one revolution should be 360 degrees or 2 pi radians. It is the same as a meter or a foot, which has a standard length which can not be set arbitrarily.

It's an arbitrary human measurement, decided that way for the reasons puzzling mentioned.

Ther are other division also like Grad(400), or radians(pi)
