I usually can. I crack a smile and force myself to stop there.

Sometimes but more often than not I lose it and make a total fool of myself.

Oh man yep i can theres a joke about that i thought i was perty funny:

A young woman who was several months pregnant boarded a bus. She noticed a young man smiling at her and began to feel humiliated on account of her condition. She changed her seat, and he seemed more amused.

She moved again, and then on her fourth move, he burst out laughing. She had him arrested.

When the case came before the court, the young man was asked why he acted in such a manner. His reply was:

When the lady boarded the bus, I couldn't help noticing she was pregnant. She sat under an advertisement that read, "Coming Soon: The Gold Dust Twins." Then she moved under a sign that read, "Sloan's Liniments remove swelling."

I was even more amused when she sat under a shaving advertisement that read, "William's Stick Did the Trick."

Then I could not control myself any longer when, on the fourth move, she sat under an advertisement that read, "Dunlop Rubber Would Have Prevented This Accident."

The case was dismissed.
He definitely couldent stifle himself

It depends. Sometimes I successfully stifle myself, and other times I don't. There are times when unsuccessfully trying to stifle laughter can be more embarrassing or troublesome than just allowing yourself to laugh, I think. To wit: when I was little, and I'd get yelled at by my father, some sort of defense mechanism would kick in, causing me to think of something funny to take my mind off of the fear and tension. However this would backfire, as his anger would just worsen, which had unfortunate ramifications for me.

Yes, but it's hard to do.

Last year I went to this restaurant, and this one waiter was acting all snooty, and I couldn't help but think of that one lil cartoon with the snooty character that had the big nose.

wow, i was just thinking of that earlier. i smile a bit, but turn my attention to the appropriate things at that time, so i don't burst out laughing when it isn't the time.

Yeah, I can unless I'm positive that the people around me are mature enough to handle it. If not, I just giggle inside my head.
