Well, I don't know if you will consider this a serious answer or not, but to me it is just a logical next step once we start down the slippery slope of defining marriage as anything else besides a union of one man and one woman.

There are people who simply believe in superstitions, & will do any number of proscribed things to ward of supposedly otherwise unnavoidable negative experiences...

Consider the neighborhood...
The majority of the population in India believe in reincarnation. They have for generations. Reincarnation is the belief that when someone dies, they can come back as a different life form. Depending on the type of person they were in the 'past life', determines what life form they come back as...

(I personally know of people who aren't from India, but rather from & still in the USA, who believe that one of the dogs they rescued is one of their mothers, reincarnated... They may have adopted Hinduism or Buddhism...)

So, they likely believe that the animal they marry was someone they knew who has died, & come back in another life form, as the animal they marry... In the case you site, however, this may not be the case. It was just done in an attempt to keep the girl safe from tigers, which sometimes take young children. They have a superstition that if a child has a tooth rooted a certain way (reminiscent of a tiger's fang?), that the child is more likely to be taken by a tiger.

Real marriages? In *whose* eyes? Apparently the people performing & entering into them think so. Their Creator has the opposite view, however... Especially if they consumate!

According to what I read, it's a real marriage. The guy obviously felt bad for stoning two other dogs to death, so to make up for it, he married one. For better or worse...heh...I just wonder if they consumated....things that make ya go...uuggghhh.

Anything that encourages nature to thrive is alright in my book. We used to baptise dogs, and I'm sure he whole thing is just a sham, but it is better than bulldozing forests and making parking lots I suppose.
