He was a gold glove caliber and had an upped average at the plate.

Hmmm. Not a position of great wealth for the franchise. I'll say Donn Clendenon, Ed Kranepool, Keith Hernandez, John Olerud and Gil Hodges. I admit Gil wasn't what he was with the Dodgers when he played for us, but he deserves all the honors he can get, even this one. Olerud wasn't here that long, but when he was, we had the best infield in baseball.

No list could ever be complete without Marvelous Marvin Throneberry. Despite his reputation, he was a pretty decent player. He just was just such a perfect fit with the Mets at the beginning of their existence. On entertainment value alone, he's got to be at least # 2 all time.
