If you want to do it quickly, fill the container with water. The egg will sink. Now add sugar slowly and dissolve it until the egg just floats. It won't hit the side of the container when the container hits the wall. I like the jello idea, too.

If you have more time and are allowed to treat the egg then (1) hard-boil it and (2) leave it to soak for several days in vinegar until the shell softens.

we did this in physics class a few weeks ago! except we dropped it off of the football stadium. but i put a ton of cotton balls in it at the last minute and it actually worked pretty well. my egg "survived" and i got a 100!

but i would suggest cotton balls, maybe a sock or two, bubble wrap. don't do jello because that didnt work. peanut butter did, though.

Water. The shock wave will go round the egg, which is pretty surprisingly strong anyway.

Don't use milk,
use vinegar and make a rubber egg.
I don't know how long it takes,
but the egg shell will be rubber.

A bunch of rubber bands... or some of those styrofoam peanuts for shipping... or wadded up newspaper... but NOT a bunch of marbles or a hand grenade.
