there is a series of blood tests that they can do to see if you are genetically predisposed to pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. I was hospitalized with severe pre-eclampsia at 21 weeks with my first pregnancy. I lasted nine weeks and when it developed into HELLP syndrome at 30 weeks they had to do an emergency C-section. My daughter was a preemie and spent 8 weeks in the hospital but she is doing wonderfully now almost 3 years later. My next pregnancy started showing the same symptoms, but later in the pregnancy. I lasted until 36 weeks before they had to do the c-section. My advice, wait for six months after the end of that pregnancy, get back to good health, and have the blood tests done before you start trying again.

This is related to gestational hypertension. There are things you can do to try and avoid this in pregnancy, but sometimes it's unavoidable. Talk to your doctor. If you have other predisposing factors like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure right now, I would try and get those things under control before getting prego again. I don't think just because you had it once you'll have it again--it's more common in first pregnancies, if you have no other risk factors. My girlfriend had it with the first baby, and not with the second. Good Luck!

Talk to your OB/GYN before trying to get pregnant. I know it is scary. My son was born at 29 weeks due to placental abruption and we also lost a baby girl last Aug at 21 weeks, and next week I will find out if I am pregnant again or not...I'm pretty sure I am.

i had pre-eclampsia with my first child and was told i had the risk of it happening again but it was only a small risk as it mostly does not recur in multiple pregnancy's and Ive had nothing since i would talk your worries out with your doctor as i think there would be a risk of this happening again to you how big the risk I'm not sure this is something only your doctor can answer
