Macs can get viruses but the usually get fewer because computer hackers write most viruses for the Microsoft operating systems.
Computer hackers like to affect as many computers as possible and since Mac's market share is only a fraction of Microsoft's, the hackers usually do not waste time writing viruses for Macs.

Yes it is true.
My PowerMac G4 is 7 years old and has never had one single virus. It's because OSX is written on top of UNIX which is the most stable and secure system available. UNIX is what runs all government and military servers and the servers of any person(s) or corporations that have a lot of valuable data that needs to stay protected and online 24/7. 7 years and not a single virus, no spyware/malware... and never had a single extraneous application installed and constantly running in the background sucking up my system resources to protect me from such things.
Macs are just a better computer all the way around. The naysayers above can keep saying nay, but they're just sheep.... or horses I guess if they're saying nay so much. Sorry, lame joke.
Apple is always pushing technology and are the early adopters of new technology. Every other manufacturer only aspires to be as good as they are. Apple's main goal when they started and it's still their main priority and is evident in everything they do..... create a work of art. Microsoft's... make a million bucks. Both of them succeed at this admirably. One makes great computers and amazing applications to go along with them.... the other makes faulty, bloated software that is 5 years behind the competition...
Apple's customer service is second to none. They fixed my 7 year old PowerMac when it had it's first hardware problem and this was 3 years after the extended warranty had expired. Try getting that level of service from anyone else.... trust me you won't... I've worked for "the others" and have family that works for them too who just recently tossed all their PCs because they were sick of constantly fixing PC problems and replaced all of their home computers with Apple. Doesn't say much when the people whose salaries were made by the sell of PCs don't trust them enough to even have them in their own home, huh?
I've strayed off from the topic but I get fired up when people make idiotic statements like "no one important uses them"... Actually, most everyone who is important uses them because they don't have the time to deal with Windows problems which is exactly why I switched 7 years ago and is exactly why ever business who is constantly against a deadline (ie. the media) uses Macs.... when moneys on the line you can't afford to be down.
Macs are beautiful and they just work.
Oh, and let me close with this.... my 7 year old PowerMac out performs my wife's 1 year old Dell. Every application on her Dell runs better and faster on my Mac. MS Office, Adobe CS3... Again, that's because OSX is written to be stable, secure, and optimize your system resources and not be a bloated turd.

They get far fewer viri. This is true for 2 reasons:
1: Most viri are operating system dependent. Windows machines make up more than 90% of the computers out there. If you are writing a virus to be nasty, you can be nastier to more people by writing it for Windows than for any other OS. It takes time to write them, so why not spend your time doing the most damage?
2: The architecture of Windows and the Windows document types (i.e. Word and Excel docs) particularly lend themselves to viri. Or perhaps another way of putting it is that the architecture of Mac and other operating systems are more difficult to code viri for. The differences used to be as fundamental as different processes ran in the same memory space under Windows so they can overwrite each other's memory.
Ultimately, Windows has grown by aquisition and made such major changes that the code just hasn't had enough q/a time. MacOS is based on FreeBSD and the FreeBSD kernel has been opensource for a long time. Consequently, hackers have found the problems early on and they have been fixed.
The Windows operating system's internals have never been available to general public, so it hasn't been under the eye of hackers to find problems.
Sure, having FreeBSD's kernel be generally available invited attacks early on ... but those attacks have found the problems and they have been fixed. They were fixed long long before Apple adopted FreeBSD's OS for their base (Darwin).

No, it's not true. But when you're a hacker bent on world destruction, it's better to target the Microsoft system since it's more commonly and widely used. If Apple had won the computer race and most computers were Macs, your question would be "Is it true that Windows computers don't get viruses?"

it is not Macs themselves, this is Unix. by using fact maximum folk of the all human beings is working abode windows, maximum folk of the viruses are for abode windows working structures. Unix is the backside for Linux and Mac working structures. by using fact that this type of small quantity of folk use it, there are hardly ever any viruses for it. while it turns into greater familiar, viruses will start up shooting up. this is in basic terms the way it works.

My former workplace used Macs, and yes, we got viruses from time to time.

No.
But windows controls something like 98% of the market (or more). So if you were writing a virus and you wanted it to hit as many people as possible...
Would you pick windows systems or macs?

Far fewer is right. I know a Mac owner that doesn't even have anti-virus software on their machine, and has never had a problem.
