My husband and I are going to Vegas over Thanksgiving for the first time. Any places that we should make sure we visit? Any great restaurants that we shouldn't miss? We are staying at the New York, New York motel. What should I bring to wear? Thanks for any advice!

There are lots to do and see in Las Vegas and believe it or not most of them are FREE.
Here is a list of free attractions

As far as food is concerned, I think Vegas has the best buffets in the world. Here is a list with prices.

Make sure you view the Fountains at the Bellagio. Any restaurant is worth trying. Most restaurants are now upscale with famous chefs from around the world and from TV. Cost is high in those. It can and will get cool once the sun goes down so bring slacks. Have comfortable shoes and do not wear brand new shoes because you do so much walking that a blister could ruin your vacation. Even though it is not real hot here make sure you drink plenty of water. The humidity is so low that it takes all the moisture out of your body and you don't know it. Take in all the free attractions that you can. Shows are expensive so be prepared for that fact.

Everything looks closer than it really is. You may think that you can walk to a point that you can easily see and that it will take but a few minutes. Do not count on that ... it will take a lot longer than you imagine.

Just enjoy yourself. Time will fly by so fast when you are here and you will not do all the things you want to do.

For clothing - t-shirt and jeans (or similar), plus a medium-ish sweater. You will spend 90% of your time indoors anyway, but definitely want to have a layer. It gets a little chilly outside at night, but you can get by with a jacket.

For shows, my favorite was Penn and Teller. It's good to pick out a show and get tix as soon as you can, even before you leave if possible.

Definitely go to The Venetian. From NYNY you are close to Excalibur and the free tram that goes to Luxor and Mandalay Bay, so take advantage of that. If you like heights/thrill rides, check out The Stratosphere. As soon as you get in a cab at the airport, there is a book called I think 24/7 - great resource.

Oh and one thing I can tell you - everything will get noticeably more crowded starting Friday and up through the weekend. But up to/including Thanksgiving day, it's kind of a dead time. Try to do the ticketed/long wait/long line/popular things before Friday, and avoid taking a long cab or bus ride on the strip on Friday night.

Get on the metro and spend a day on the strip, hotel hopping! Eat at the Rio it's great. Don't miss the water show at Bellagio. Fremont St. is kinda close but you shouldn't miss. Especially at night. Hoover Dam is only 30min away if you have the time and transportation. The New Your New York is awesome too, cool things to do there. Have fun!!!

Check out http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/ (and to buy the membership if interested, go to http://www.shoplva.com/lasvegasadvisor.cfm) - you can get a 5-day membership for $5 and they have reviews, questions of the day, membership reviews and polls, LOTS of coupons, and other stuff that might help you prepare for your trip on this kind of short notice.

If you have time, I would go on a tour of the Neon Museum - they usually require advance reservations, but it has all the old-school neon signs and stuff from back in the day from the old torn-down casinos. Interesting. If you have time, take a tour up to Hoover Dam....very awsome, it is about an hour or so out of Las Vegas, you don't NEED to do a tour, but every hotel can set them up and you can sightsee on the way up and back without having to drive. Check out downtown. The Fremont Street Experience is cool, but short...so you can check out the older casinos down there too, many renovated and looking good these days.

The Tropicana has a great comedy club too, and currently has the BODIES exhibit going that is real bodies opened and preserved in plastic stuff (polymers) so you can really see the "real stuff". Kinda creepy to think about, but incredibly awe-inspiring and interesting once you get in and start looking.

There is so much to do there, so much to see. We go at least 6 weekends a year and have been doing so for about 7 years, and we probably STILL haven't seen 1/3 of what there is to see.

Get going and have a blast...dance your pants off and just have a good time!

The weather people are calling for a cold thanksgiving here in las vegas. High's around 50F. Bring comfortable shoes, it's the key! Don't go to the Excalibur, do go to the Luxor, Bellagio they decorate a conservatory to seasonal themes using flowers and water displays. Go to a Cirq show!
