Ephedrine is a chemical that acts as a stimulant. Among other effects, it can be used as a decongestant and a bronchodilator. Presumably, it would have beneficial effects on a cow as well as on a human. It is not used in humans as much anymore, because we have found more effective medicines with fewer side effects.
