Fiberglass batts or rolls. It is cheap, easy to install, works well. Further, you can now buy itch-proof fiberglass. Try Lowe's if there is one in your area.

If f you can afford a 3 car garage, you can afford to insulate the other 2 walls and get premium doors. Since you are up north, not having the insulation and the door will be just like keeping your cars outside. With the insulation and door you could probably just keep a space heater going in your garage overnight and not have to plug in the electric dipstick. Also think about the aesthetics, those cheap garage doors will be noisy and if you bump into it, they will have a dent on both sides. The insulated doors, with a good opener and insulated walls are the way to go for you northerners. Especially if you wind up having to do any work out there or you use it to hang out in (darts, and beer keg). Tell your wife that you can upgrade the light fixtures and cabinet hardware at a later time, but you NEED to get the garage in order first.

Foam insulation is the best, but the most expensive.

Cellulose insulation, when installed in the walls, is a bit more expensive but worth the extra cost. It is fire-retardant and bugs don't like the boric acid in it. It is guarenteed not to settle.

Fiberglass will get the job done.

It has been my experience that an insulation company can generally do the job for less than what a homeowner can. Shop around and see what you find.

Fiberglass bats beter r-value than celulose and cheaper.

You might want to call a insulating company They will be able to do the jobe Time and material for about the same money that you could buy the stuff for and do it your self. Not to mention that you won't be cover in fiberglass.

Definitely fiberglass rolls. Especially if you are going to be installing it yourself. It is very easy to install and it provides an excellent R value for the $$.

Fiberglass is the best R value for the thickness. It is cheaper then Styrofoam.

Use foam insulation, fiberglass is messy and you won't want the fibres in your camera gear (unless you plan to sheet rock) you can get white foam it will brighten the room.
