it is a 4 cylinder. It describes how the cylinders are in relation to each other. A boxer is the cylinders flat, a v-4 is in a v, an I-4 is up and down. a slanted is a combination of a v and an I. Hope this helps you out.

This stands for i 4, a capitol I followed by number 4. It means inline 4 cylinder, and is the most common set up of a 4 cylinder engine. All it means is that there are a total of 4 cylinders and they are all in a line. An Inline 4 is the same thing as saying a 4 cylinder.
There are other types of 4 cylinders like the subaru boxer engine which has 2 pistons horizontally oppposed to the other two, but inline 4 is the most common.

I stands for in-line. It's uncommon for a 4-cylinder to have any other arrangement in a car. V-4's are common on motorcycles, but unheard of in cars. Some flat 4's have been used in cars, with two cylinders on each side, notably by the old Volkswagen and more recently subaru.

Well, there are 2 catagories for engines, forced induction and naturally asipirated (turbo or no turbo :D) So be specefic when you ask because Forced induction really amkes HUGE difference in 4 cylinders. For turbo I4, here are the best ones. Evo 9, evo 10 2.0L Mivec turbo (most hp/liter stock in history!!) makes about 290 hp (evo 9) 300 hp (evo 10) 0-60 around 5 and top spead is electronicly limited to 150. Torque is around 80% of the hp. Subaru wrx sti Very smilar to evo 2.5 boxer I4 makes around 300 hp Same numbers as evo Slivia s15 SR20dett engine -basically very hard to find but these engienes got so much potential (not made in US). Mazdaspeed3 2.3 turbo 268 hp and good amount of torque. note that this car isFWD, loads of torque steer and wheel spin. Thats the best ones for turbo. For non turbo they all suck but I would recomand civic Si. b16 2.0 200hp Also maybe mazda3s, 2.3l I4

your engine is in the middle... best 2.0 engine in my opinion would be a B16A2 (it comes in the 99-00 civic si.. and a couple other hondas)... its reliable and has 100hp per liter... (160hp/ 1.6l).... if you wanted performance.. then the evo's 2.0l turbo'd engine ....
