I don't know the origin but I was born in 1960 and recall as a preteen singing this while doing "patty cake" I don't recall there being any more to it than what is written here. Of course it or versions of it had been used by many artist in various songs over the years. If I had to guess I would say it is at a minimum 45 years old.

3-6-9.. the goose drank wine, the monkey got caught on the streetcar line, the goose choked, the line broked and they all went to heaven on a little red boat. Aha.
We used to jump rope to that in Elementary school in Pa.

Wasn't that Shirley Ellis' Clap Clap
The monkey threw tobacco
on the street car line
The line broke
the monkey got soaked
and they all lived together in a little row boat, clap clap.
She also did the name game, there was one name my mum wouldn't let us sing - chuck , think about it as you recite it to yourself. LOL.

I found it was called this:
The Clapping Song
Artist(Band):Aaron Carter
I remember kids really loved it.
It's funny what our kids think we make up until they hear someone else say the same thing.
Edit: Here's the words:

How about some lyrics, Southern Comfort...if you can sing babies to sleep with it, it has to be PG enough to survive on here!
