My ex at college had my tire repair kit (I depend on my bike to get around campus.) We don't talk anymore, and he avoids me whenever he sees me. Go figure.
Recently my tires blew out, so I sent him an email asking for it back. He didn't respond for three days, so I texted him. Minutes later, the bike kit is hanging from my doorknob.
The kit is completely empty.
When I bought it, it had at least eight patches, sandpaper, and some other tools. I am an extremely broke college student with no transportation and really can't afford to buy another tire repair kit, so I'm a little miffed.
When I confronted him about it, he claimed that he left it outside his door a few days ago for me to pick up, then dropped it off the way that he found it. One, he never told me that he had left it anywhere, let alone outside his door (why would I go to his door?). Two, if someone had stolen anything, why wouldn't they take the entire kit rather than the stuff in it?
What do I do about this?

I lent it to him while we were dating a few weeks ago.
(And about the money issue--it was a pretty big bike kit that I got as a gift with some expensive tools, this is a school-subsizdized computer, and yes, I have a job that goes 100% towards my tuition. The streets of New Orleans are unfortunately filled with broken glass, nails, and tree roots breaking the concrete.)

Might as well suck it up and borrow some cash. What a loser.

Start walking and save for another kit. Christ....you can't be learning very much at college if you're getting worked up over some sandpaper and vulacanized patches.

Just wait until you leave the fantasy world of academia and have to deal with real problems out there.

You are mad because an old $6 repair kit you lent someone years ago and is now empty? I find it baffling that he would bother to return an empty box rather than say "hey, sorry man - all gone"

Your tireS (plural!) blew out? BOTH of them? Did you ride through a pile of razors or something?

I suggest you find a few bucks and get a new tire kit. You seem to be able to afford a computer.

This whole thing is just weird.

just go get another kit...even a broke college student AFTER GETTING A JOB can afford a cheap tire kit...good luck...

really this is not worth dwelling on...your time would be better spend on studies...just chalk it up to one of life's experiences

I think that he is an ex for a reason. He sounds like a right loser!
If it helps you feel better, my ex owes me $1500.00.

I think there is nothing you can do to prove him wrong.
I would suggest to talk to other friends and see if they can help you to fix your tires.
