Alex Rodriguez Statement
After spending time with Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the Yankees regarding my future with the organization.
Prior to entering into serious negotiations with other clubs, I wanted the opportunity to share my thoughts directly with Yankees' ownership. We know there are other opportunities for us, but Cynthia and I have a foundation with the club that has brought us comfort, stability and happiness.
As a result, I reached out to the Yankees through mutual friends and conveyed that message. I also understand that I had to respond to certain Yankees concerns, and I was receptive and understanding of that situation.
Cynthia and I have since spoken directly with the Steinbrenner family. During these healthy discussions, both sides were able to share honest feelings and hopes with one another, and we expect to continue this dialogue with the Yankees over the next few day.

Alex is baseball's biggest paid prostitute and the Steinbrenners are the richest pimps in America. I admit Alex is a great ball player but come on $275 million? What the heck?

Scott Boras blew this one. Even though the contract will set a new high, he was to do what he does better that any agent on the market next to Drew Rosenhaus, make more enemies. He was yapping in A-Rod's year on what he should do. Void the remaining 3 years $81 million and sign a more lucrative contract. Boras apparently demanded $350 million from the Yankees.

Word from the General Manager meeting was that GM's were working together to avoid competitive bidding on A-Rod which is defined as collusion in Major League Baseball Collective Bargaining Agreement. Did it finally hit A-Rod that Boras was negative publicity? Was he thinking would any team offer him Yankee type money? He knows he has to re-sign with the Yankees.

A-Rod wanted the money when he opted out of his contract. It was NOT a personal matter, even he stated that.

But now he has second thoughts on that after discussing it with his family he has made a decision that he would lessen the asking part for his contract to return as a Yankee.

I think he will sign as a Yankee after all of this. He wants to stay in the New York and give the fans a thrill.

Why would he stay in New York he is never going to get a ring. He is going to New York because he wants the money. If he really wants a ring he sould go to Boston no matter what they pay him. They are going to win again with the starting pitching they have Beckett, Buchholz, Schilling, Lester, Matsuzaka, and Wakefield that is 10 times better than the pitchers New York has.

here is the thing boras tried the free agent thing to see if he could get more money for a-rod, but no team in baseball except for maybe the red sox could pay for him and boras ticked off stienbrener, so they told a-rod if you negotiate with us without boras, then will forgive and forget and give you a good deal, so now a-rod is playing nice with the yankees and thats where he'll stay, its a big game.

Really glad to hear that he should be staying with my Yankees...I really think that it may have come down to money as everyone thought....it was just not going to be out there to get in my opinion and at the same time maybe there is some truth to his statement....he really wanted to stay in New York and Mr "More-a$$"...over estimated the market...either way, I really don't care....it sounds like they will lock him up and be with us for the remainder of his career....now on to Lowell (a former Yankee by the way) and with the young pitching we came up with last year we will be ready for this season.....come on you "STINKIN RED SOX"....lets get it on!!!

I read this about 2 seconds after the webmaster to his site must have posted it and was thrilled! Before that it was just the Daily News making the claim.

I think he's worth every penny and I'm glad the new Steinbrenner's aren't as inflexible as their dad.

He saw that there wasn't as much interest out there as he and Boras had assumed there would be, so he decided to make a show of being a good but misunderstood guy. Nothing but a PR ploy.

He wants to remain a Yankee despite all the hassles. Also, I think his wife had something to do with the decision.

The Yankees will still pay him and now they are going after Lowell
