Any ideas from anyone out there ? I am sure it is not as much as F1 drivers, no Rally Tax exiles in sight as far as I know!

In reality F1 drivers get paid so so. Besides the Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso most of them make about $3-10 Million/ year within the smaller teams. Lewis Hamilton I think only got paid about $500K this year. But his salary will go up this coming year. There are some drivers are paid drivers, where they pay the teams.

I remember seeing a pay scale for Jeff Gordon and he gets paid with endorsments is somewhere around 40-50 Million a year.

In the end it really depends how good your skills are, your marketability and which team you drive for dictates your salary.

In F1 I thought that Alex Zanardi explained in his autobiography that while the big names like M Schumacher, Alonso, Kimi make tens of Millions in salary and tens of millions more in endorsements the rest of the field probably makes around $1M or less in salary and maybe that much in endorsements. He makes it seem like the real backmarker drivers in F1 may only make a few hundred thousand USD.

In Nascar there is prize money (usu divided between driver and team), salary (from the team to the driver) and sponsorships. The prize money alone for the top 10 drivers is millions of USD plus they get millions in salary and sponsorship money. I would bet that the drivers in the top end up with tens of Millions of USD. The mid pack drivers make a couple million total but even drivers who only race in one race may make a few hundred thousands.

Check out nascar.com and look at standings and they have prize money won for some idea of the prize money.

I have no idea what Lombard RAC Rally is or what they drivers make. I think that the WRC drivers make a million total but I am really not sure.

Look in the paper for nascar standings. They usually list the driver, points, $$ won, $$ total .

Use the $$ won for an idea of how much they make per race. The total $$ includes sponsor bonus's that would not be considered part of their "salary".

It really varies. Some F1 drivers don't get paid anything, but Jr. makes about forty million a year without ever winning a race.
