For the cost of one, fast food hamburger meal, say, around $5, I can prepare a more nutritious meal for four people. (chicken, a veggie and a salad)
Built in to the price of any fast food is the cost of the ingredients, payrol for the staff, and overhead costs of maintaining the restaurant for the entire time it is open. Add to that, whatever profit margin the owners take. (after all, the owners are NOT in buisness to feed people. They are in it for the profit)
When I cook at home, no one needs to pay me. When I am not cooking, the stove and kitchen lights are off. Any leftovers can make an additional meal for myself.

I've spent as much as $10 @ a fast food/deli/take out. With that $$ I could buy enough to make 1 or maybe 2 meals @ home.

It may not seem cheaper, however it will save you a bundle in health costs later on down the road. It also tastes better and is better for you if you are cooking healthy meals and not meals laden with fat, sugar, red meats and salt.

For the same amount of money you can buy a larger volume of food. For example, a whole chicken for around $5 will go further than a chicken burger for the same price. Check out the Spendthrift Diva's blog (www.thespendthriftdivas.blogspot.com). They did a meeting where they made meals for the family for around $5 each. You can e-mail them for the list of meals.

Not only are you saving money because you can get things on sale and make tons of it. Plus, it is alot healthier to make a homemade meal rather than ordering out-- once in a while its fun but try not to make it a habit! Hopefully this will help and if you need any ideas about homemade meals to make visit this website: http://allrecipes.com/Recipes/Healthy-Living/Main.aspx
