You know what's funny? Had 9/11 not happened, I'd bet $1,000 that almost the entire country would rally behind Rudy. If you were to research his accomplishments for 5 minutes, you would easily see that the whole 9/11 event does not even describe 1% of his capabilities. Being mayor of NYC when 9/11 happens is hardly 'lucky'. I'm sure when he saw it happening he didn't feel 'lucky'.

During Giuliani's term as mayor:
Crime (street crime) went down a lot, but not as much of a drop as other cities--demography and the economy accounted for most of it.
The improvements in the police department and in crime fighting were due to his first police commissioner, whom Giuliani fired.
Taxes went down and then went up.
Giuliani had the guts to back a Democrat for Governor because he thought the Dem was a better candidate.
Several times, the courts said that Giuliani's actions were unconstitutional (not just wrong, but against the US Constitution)
Just after 9/11, Giuliani suggested that the upcoming mayoral election in November 2001 be suspended so he could stay in office to handle the emergency.
Giuliani never hesitated to go his way regardless of advice or opposition. (Think Kerik)
If you think George W Bush has done everything right, you will love Giuliani.

Rudy during a horrible disaster stepped up and showed he had real leadership ability. That is not luck.
Governor Blanco of Louisiana during Katrina hesitated and made bad decisions such as not allowing Salvation Army and Red Cross disaster relief trucks enter the city to bring water and food. She also hesitated when Bush asked her permission required by law to bring in Military units to help in disaster relief because she wanted to keep control of the national guard and valued less the need of a huge response which caused a several days delay in getting every resource possible there.
Blanco did not seek another term and I am sure she doesn't consider it luck.

The man did a great job. Have you ever seen Times Square recently? Does anyone remember how he cleaned that city up? Rosie O'Donnell went nuts when he "Arrested" the homeless, but he put many into mental health facilities where they could get help. Had he been a Democrat, the Liberals would have praised him for "Helping" the homeless. This country is so divided right now that no matter what a candidate does he's condemned. It's pathetic.

definite. once you concentrate on that NYC is the capital/capitol of the international. If ny were its own us of a, its military, the ny city Police branch, might want to be the 20 th-perfect-funded military interior the international, in basic terms behind Greece and in basic terms previous to North Korea. Its GDP, $413.9 billion, might want to be the 17th best, in basic terms behind the Russian Federation and in basic terms previous to Switzerland. With better than 8 million voters, it could be extra populous than eire, Switzerland, or New Zealand; type of one/2 the international locations interior the middle East (mutually with Israel); most of the former republics of the Soviet Union; and each and each and every of the Scandinavian international locations to boot Sweden. ny is already an island off the coast of america. And its mayors already act like heads of state. at the same time as terrorists first tried to blow up the international commerce center in 1993, David Dinkins changed into in Osaka. at the same time as Rudolph Giuliani changed into in Gracie Mansion, he entertained Tony Blair and threw Yasser Arafat out of Avery Fisher hall. “each and each and every time a pacesetter got here to city hall,” says Jerome Hauer, the former director of the workplace of Emergency administration, “human beings on the State branch all started taking Maalox.”

That certainly has bolstered his candidacy, but the job he did as mayor of NY, 911 withstanding, was superb.
