....questions?

Down with silly Haley, time to get serious.

Bobby Orr:

1.) Dad’s name was?

2.) His 1st NHL game was against the Red Wings. Did he score a goal that night? How many?

3.) There's a famous picture, where Bobby Orr is flying through the air to win the 69-70 Stanley Cup. What player was tripping him in that picture?

4.) What trophy did he win 8 years consecutively?

5.) In 1971-1972, Bobby Orr signed a contract that was a first of it's kind. What made his contract unique?

6.) Prior to the 1976-77 season, Orr’s agent did not inform him of what important offer?

LITY, look at you, telling me how to ask questions ;) I hope I didn’t hit a sore spot. I only ask what I read, so I suppose it could be wrong. 5.) The answer was in the beginning of the 71-72 season Orr signed a contract for $200,000 per season over 5 years, making it the first million dollar contract.
6.) In the beginning of the 76-77 season the Bruins did offer Orr a piece of ownership, yet Orr states he was not told this by his agent.

....I get what you are saying now. And you wonder since he only played 10 games in 75-76, why wouldn't informal talks already be in the works.

1) Douglas Orr
2) No goals, One assist
3) Noel Picard
4) Norris Trophy
5) It was the first $1,000,000 contract in hockey (5 yrs at $200,000 per year)
6) As it turned out, when it came time to negotiate a new contract prior to the 1976-77 season, the Bruins did offer Orr a piece of the ownership but the star player said his agent never informed him of the proposed deal. Orr, who had struggled with his left knee and played only 10 games in 1975-76, felt as though Boston no longer wanted him and signed instead with the Chicago Black Hawks

6) What? Alan Eagleson held something back from a player? You gotta be joking! My best buddy Alan would NEVER do anything not on the level.....never.

Haley, 6) should read AFTER the 1975-76 season as Wirtz gave him his million dollar contract in May 1976 (May 15th I believe), that would not be permissable these days. So, it was well before the start of the 1976-77 season.

Haley, the thing that I am looking at is..........
The 5 years were
71-72
72-73
73-74
74-75
75-76

Once the Bruins were eliminated from the playoffs in 76, Orr was a free agent as contracts ended in those days on the last day of the year, nowadays they end at noon on July 1st.

Philadelphia eliminated the Bruins on May 6th, and it was only a week or so later that we signed him, and at the time it was the first $1,000,000/season contract in the NHL ($1,1MM I believe). Marcel Dionne signed a $6.2MM/10yr deal with Los Angeles a short time after that.

So, I have to wonder what conversations Eagleson had (or didn't have) with Orr in those 8 days. Technically Boston had all year to talk to Orr as he was their property.

the bruins won march 1970 when I was born and damn it all I can tell you without looking it up is that Orr won the Norris tropy 8 times in a row.

I THINK he scored 2 goals his first game with Detroit...????

Lord I'm a sad Bruins fan.......

and in 77 I think his agent didn't tell him the Bruins wanted him back??

I SWEAR i'm guessing everything but the Norris trophy. He DID win Conn Smythe as well but Norris was 8 times.
