How long have you lived in America?
I worked with the general public for years. Everyone feels they are entitled to some special privilege because they are simply breathing. It's getting hard and harder to have a sense of humor, give a direct and honest answer, or give an employee direction without someone feeling wounded.
I'm sure this level of honesty will offend some "gentle soul."

Hi,
I found your answer very interesting because it told me a lot about you. I have found that most people respond to both verbal and non-verbal clues in their daily interactions. The sad thing is that if you expect people to react in a certain way based on colour, ethnicity, or stereotypes, that is what you'll find most of the time. While I may be naive in some areas, I have been around long enough to have experienced some of the worst and the best that life has to offer. As Dr. Martin Luther King said in his famous speech - when we can learn to judge others by the content of their character rather than by the colour of their skin then we would see each other differently and the world will be a better place.
May you find that freedom in your journey through life.
Peace!

I hear this concern expressed by many, like yourself, as "everything is so politically correct these days".
Your intentions may be good, but many blacks are constantly over critisized or wrongly portrayed or simply misunderstood JUST because they are black. We are not overly sensitive, we simply want to be respected and heard as any other human being should be. This is a complex situation and it may be that you have no awareness of the power of being in the majority (white) culture. Perhaps you are oblivious to something called "white privilege", which still exists today. For example in the workplace, when a white person says - "I hate these meetings" - it can be percieved as opinion, but often, if a black person makes the SAME statement- he or she will be called "difficult" or "confrontational" and possibly even reprimanded. This type of racial discrimination is extremely subtle, and the reason why today, we have to be so carfeul of what we say to ANYone who is different from our own.
So we are "like that" because of the subtle oppression and racism that still exists. Perhaps you are just making jokes, and have never overtly discriminated agaisnt or oppressed anyone. So its difficult for you to understand how YOUR actions can be so bad and why YOU need to walk on eggshells. NOONE wants to be offended or discriminated against. We should all be politically correct. It's as if the end of a perceived license to offend people is something to regret.

Because of lame statements like these. EVERYONE is easily offended.
How would you feel if people saw you as a race first then as a person?
Show some respect. Your name says it all.

most of us do not know Al and Jesse personally, so that's wrong. Secondly, I don't see how you have to watch your "month," lol, but it's always good to think before you speak.
And since you've never experienced what we have as a whole, you'll never understand.

Wouldn't you be offended considering a history of slavery? I find it disturbing that there is still racism in America(Land of the Free)please. The offense comes in where whites categorize blacks as being all the same, as having a particular grade of hair, or as being criminals. Yet, they want to be like us.

Same reason a lot of white people are easily offended - lots of them are too sensitive, and there are lots of jerks out there offending them.
