Hi, again
5 - x - 2 = 3 + 4x + 5
3 -x = 8 + 4x
3 - 8 = 4x + x
-5 = 5x
x = -5/5
x= -1
____________________________________________
Now it replaces "x"
5 - (-1) - 2 = 3 + 4(-1) + 5
5 +1 -2 = 3 -4 +5
4 = 4.....it GOOD
---------------------------------- and ----------------------------------------
2.6x + 18 = 2.4x + 22
2.6x - 2.4x = 22 - 18
0.2x = 4
x = 4/ 0.2
x = 20
____________________________________________
Now it replaces "x"
2.6x + 18 = 2.4x + 22
2.6 (20) +18 = 2.4 (20) + 22
52 +18 = 48 +22
70 = 70 ....... it GOOD
Well, Bye

You have to learn to move stuff around until all the variables are on one side and the fixed values are on the other.
Here is a trick that looks long and complicated; but it works every time:
5 - x - 2 = 3 + 4x + 5
Let us say that we want the x's on the right and the numbers on the left. Let's take, one at a time, each thing that is not in the proper place, and get rid of it. Whatever operation we do on one side, we must do on the other.
5 - x - 2 = 3 + 4x + 5
Let's add x on each side (does not matter where we add it)
5 + x - x - 2 = 3 + 4x + x + 5
+x - x = 0, so we can get rid of them.
5 - 2 = 3 + 5x + 5
3 = 3 + 5x + 5
Now, we get rid of the 3 on the right by subtracting three on both sides:
3 - 3 = 3 - 3 + 5x + 5
0 = 5x + 5
Next, we get rid of the 5 on the right by subtracting 5 from both sides:
0 - 5 = 5 x + 5 - 5
- 5 = 5 x
Now we solve by dividing both sides by 5:
-5 / 5 = 5 x / 5
-5/5 = -1 and 5/5 = 1
-1 = x

5 - x - 2 = 3 + 4x + 5
first simplify those like terms
3 - x = 4x + 8
now to deal with x on both sides. get rid of one or the other by either adding x to both or subtracting 4x from both. either is fine but I'll add x to avoid getting a negative.
3 = 5x +8
Suddenly it's easy, right? Subtract 8 from both sides then divide by 5
-5 = 5x
-1 = x
2.6x + 18 = 2.4x + 22 [assuming the m is a typo]
Either subtract 2.6x or 2.4x from both sides. I'll choose 2.4x again to avoid a negative:
0.2x + 18 = 22
Suddenly its easy again. Subtract 18 then divide by the 0.2
0.2x = 4
x = 20

5-x-2 = 3+4x+5: combine like terms first on both sides giving u: -x+3 = 4x+8. Then add x to both sides: 3 = 5x+8, subtract 8 to isolate x, giving u -5 = 5x or x = -1.
2.6x+18=2.4x+22 (m a typo?). Same thing, you have to combine like terms: 2.6x=2.4x+4 (subtracting 18 on both sides). Then, subtract 2.4x to both sides, giving you .2x = 4, then divide by .2, giving you x = 20. You can check if you want: 2.6(20) + 18 = 2.4(20) + 22 which means 52+18 = 48+22 or 70 = 70, it works. x = 20

5 - x - 2 = 3 + 4x + 5
3-x = 8+4x
3-8 = 4x+x
-5 = 5x
-1=x
2.6x + 18 = 2.4x + 22
2.6x - 2.4x = 22-18
.2x =4
x = 20

(5-5) - x - 2 = 3 +4x + (5-5)
-x-2=3+4x
-2=3+5x
-5=5x
x=-1
2.6x + 18 =m2.4x + 22 (what is this m??)
2.6x-2.4x+18=22
0.2x+18=22
0.2x=22-18
0.2x=4
x=4/0.2
x=20
