I have a '94 Corolla and it was in great condition up until yesterday. It was trembling and shaking. It was even putt putting...lol. Seriously. I don't know what it could be. It felt like my car was about to shut off but it didn't. The check engine light is not on and this morning I drove my car 3 miles. When I parked my car, it smelled like burnt. But there was no smoke or any indication of what it could be. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I'm going to go have a mechanic look at it but since I'm a girl, I don't want to get played.

Could be a couple of things.
1. EGR valve stuck open
2. Catalytic Converter is plugged

Hon, it could be alot of things, it could be as simple as you bought some bad gas,or accidentally put the wrong fuel in. Could be it might of jumped time by breaking the teeth off the timing belt. (very expensive) or it could be your EGR valve is plugged (cheap fix). Best to take it and have it checked by a reputable mechanic

Its probably the oil, My car started shaking from that once. maybe the fanbelt, coud lead to the burnt smell.
This is what i do when i get suspicious of my car:
1.check fluids
2.check tires
3.check start
4.check how it drives
Last thing: Ask my dad
if you check everything, you may just need to get it serviced.

Tell me more and I will do my best to tell you want the problem is. By the way, you are very smart to ask before you go to an auto shop.

I used to own one of these and they are super easy to fix.
