Use felt it's inexpensive and easy to whip stitch/sew... I don't know how big your son it but, buy 3-4 yrs... Fold in half.. Draw a stocking outline w/ chalk and cut out.. Whip stitch two pieces together in a constrasting color/ribbon... Leave room for arm holes/leg holes. You can embelish the top of the stocking with faux-fur (white)... Have him wear a white turtleneck/pants....

You can take a bright flat bedsheet and sew (glue, staple, tape) it into the right shape. Don't be afraid to cut it. Then allow your child to decorate the sheet with Christmas things.
