Greek life is a great thing. While many people believe that fraternities and sororities are just groups of rich college kids who haze pledges and get drunk all the time(unfortunately there are some chapters which do hold true to this), it is much more than that. My fraternity constantly gives back to the community. We clean streets, helped build a community center for the underprivileged, and hold fund raisers to donate money to Make-A-Wish and Huntsman Cancer Institute. As for the whole rich kids statement, it is completely untrue. I have multiple fraternity brothers who have worked all their life because their family didn't have the money to pay for them to go to college.

One of the best things is to meet alumni who prove that it means a lot. There many famous alumni from my fraternity, Sigma Chi, who are constantly giving back to the fraternity because it has given them so much. Bud Shuster and Bill Shuster, a former congressman and current congressman respectively, came to my chapter today because they care so much about Sigma Chi. (They are father and son, both Sigma Chis).

If you are curious about joining a Fraternity or Sorority, definitely rush. If you don't like it that much, don't worry, greek life isn't for everybody. If you do decide to pledge be ready to have a great time.

I'm an alumni of a national sorority.. I loved being in my sorority in college but, even more so as an adult.. Our sorority did many philanthropies while I was in college and I think even more so as an alum... Those who "dis" greek life are the one's that know little about it... It's not paying for your friends or anything like that it's a good way to build social relationships, support world organizations/causes and to be a part of something bigger than just yourself... Good luck

I'm British so my concept of them is probably warped...I think they sort of section off groups of society...like all the rich kids belong to "their sorority" and so on...I dont think they are very healthy.

fake at the start

maybe not as fake at the end.

it's basically a way to social network, not that it's the only way or the cheapest way either. it certainly is not the best way to social network. if you're goal-less, aimless and don't know what to do with your life, then try a greek life.
