I agree with you - I'd never go for it with the girls name. Regardless with what the name is, I'd never make my son a JR or a II because it's a burden to live with.
My hubby is a "2nd", and we have problems every time anyone from a utility, bank, cell company etc. have to run his credit report- we always have to go to extra steps to verify his identity.
We (well he - they had me wait outside) even got detained and pulled aside in customs after a Mexican cruise because for some reason their computer brought up his dad's passport or info, and obviously that didn't match him so they had to verify his ID,
It's been a royal pain and we'd never do that to our kids!

I would say the baby's middle name should be Derek or Erica or some other D girl name, depending upon the gender, and come up with your own first name, something you like.

If he is being completely serious, try and compromise. Maybe use Derek for the first name but tell him, she will have a nickname. Here are a few that kinda like Derek
Darrah Dare-Ah Hebrew- Compassionate
Daricka is American meaning Dancer maybe call her Aricka
or Dericka ie Ericka
Ask him how he thinks kids will react to a little girl with a boys name... although they are all the rage now, my personal faves are Tyler for a girl and Brady for a boy. Tell him to really think about it, maybe go with his middle name... what is that?

That's just stupid. You could consider giving in for Derek Jr. but naming a girl child after the father, even if there were a nice sister name to his name (in this case there clearly isn't) would be ridiculous. Is he an egoist or what?

Just tell him you didn't carry the baby for nine months then to give birth and have him force a name upon you, if you have a boy say he can take Ur bf's name as a middle name and sit down and look at names together and if its a girl, flat out refuse!! and find names together.

Derek Jr. for a boy is fine , You might consider using Derek as a middle name if it's a girl and you can just tell her that it's her Fathers fault lol =)
It will only be on legal documents for the most part, so why not make him happy? =)

Oh my! This is where ego and sense have to meet comfortably and good sense must win! Derek is NOT a good name for a baby of any sex! Tell him NO...if it is a boy give him Derek as a middle name....

Oh lordy, no Dereka! I would strongly reccommend that you don't do a Derek Junior. It can get very confusing when applying for credit, social security cards, and legal paperwork.
Here's some ideas:
Danica
Daphne
Daniela

Are you sure he is not joking? Try to talk him into a girls name that starts with a D or something similar like Erica. Just tell him no way to Dereka. Yuk!!!
