also, what type of bike do you have?
one person told me that if taken care of VERY well, a "crotch rocket", such as a Yamaha R6, Suzuki GSX-R, Ninja, CBR, etc, will last 100,000 miles.
another person told me that they fall apart after 25,000 miles.
which of these is more accurate?
i've been looking at buying a pre-owned 600cc bike with 10K - 15K miles on it, and i don't want it to "fall apart" in a year or two.
I always select the best answer, Thanks.

I drove a 1977 KZ 1000 160,000 miles with the original engine and valves. I bought that bike new and stuck with the maintenance schedules religiously. The ZRX 1100 I own now has 46,000 miles on it and is still going strong. I don't baby my bikes, I ride them hard. Wheelies and revving to redline are a regular part of my riding. I have seen other bikes that were junk after 25,000 miles. I don't know how well maintained those bikes were but I do know that the owners changed things like exhaust, jets and air filters. If you want maximum durability, keep the bike completely stock.

If a bike, no matter what type or make, is properly maintained, you can expect a long life from it. You will always have the oddball failures like lights, broken mirrors, or cables from any bike.
I've been riding a Honda Reflex for the last two years and have racked up 18000 miles so far, and I've done my own maintenance.

19,300 on my '06 Superglide since July 1, '06.
I don't remember what the mileage is on my '80 CB750.
I didn't ride it much this year, and haven't looked lately.
I think that the estimates you were given could be false.
Sounds a lot like the uninformed comments (better than what I could have said) seen here a lot.
The 600 with 10 - 15 K should not fall apart. Especially if it was maintained well.

More than 80,000 miles. 1985 Yamaha Virago 700 ratbike.
If you check Craigslist, the "crotch rocket" with the highest miles I've seen was a Ninja 500 with almost 90K miles on it. I don't often see sportbikes there with more than 40,000 miles. This doesn't necessarily mean much though -- maybe the people who are taking care of their high mileage motorcycles aren't interested in selling them (it works that way for Harleys, which go forever because their owners love them).

2005 xl1200r roadster sportster bought new on 8/17/05. current mileage is 10161 as of yesterday....which isnt bad for being in northeast ohio. no leaks, no drips. just typical maintainence. still have the stock tires on it. bike is still 100% stock gettin roughly 56 mpg at interstate speeds, and no, it's no bar hopper. i have it set up for long hauls; typically, 400 miles in a day or better.

I have a 92 zx7r, the starter clutch went bad at 24K (engine rebuild to fix that) But I'm not the original owner, it might have been abused. My buddy has a CBRF3 with 60k and runs perfect, he's never torn in to the engine.

53,000 in 3 years with no major problems, only regular maintenance. Not too bad for something the know-nothings continually bash on this board. Most likely because they can't afford one.
