How is/was your relationship with your mother? As the saying goes, "2 queens can't live in 1 castle". How true is that statement?

I couldn't live with my mom because my mom treats me like I'm a kid and I'm 32 years old. But I could live with my mother-in-law because she doesn't treat me like a child, though she does treat her son that way, which is amusing... :)

Of course, two queens can live in one castle. Both queens should have the sense to know that a castle takes a lot of work. And a lot of work, divided by two, is less work for both.
A double edged sword of respect, cutting both ways will ensure peace in the castle.

My mother and I started getting along better once I left home. We get along fine now. I wouldnt be able to live with her again because everything would go right back to the way it was before because she is just so used to being my mother and not used to me being an adult. I have two children and even seems to undermine my authority....forgetting that the kids are mine and not hers...and feeling that her way is best because she is my mother. Living together again would be a diaster.

i don't think it's true at all. my mom was my mom. she made the rules. she was the mom and it was her house. period. i never tried to be the boss or make decisions about what happened.i don't get the saying about 2 queens in this situation. that would make more sense if 2 grown women moved in together but not a mom/daughter thing.

We had our moments while I was growing up. The typical adolescent stuff. There were times when I loved her, and times when I thought I hated her.

Now, as an adult, my mom is my best friend.

My mom, and I had are ups and downs, but if it wasn't for her I don't know how my life would have ended up. I am truly grateful she was as tough on me as she was.
