People would be surprised what the people of the world (not the governments) really think of us. The widespread hatred just isn't there. It's the governments that hate us, because they are jealous of the greatest country in the world.

I dunno. Considering it's almost universally negative, then probably not.
I rather like others having little to no expectations for us Americans to be even remotely intelligent, worldly, inquisitive of another country, or tactful in the slightest. It sets the bar so incredibly low, that it almost seems as though any non-American who sees an American even stammer out a complete sentence in a language other than English, is amazed, astounded, and thoroughly impressed.
When everyone thinks you're a mindless idiot because of your nationality, any show of sophistication will undoubtedly have positive results, even if it's something as simple as breathing through your nose.

i care what other nations think, but i don't care if an individual from another nation wants to judge americans based on a stereotype, or even an impression they have that american bashing is cool.

No Americans should not care. They should remain the sickly, toothless bunch of savages that the rest of the world thinks they are.

American intelligence should be worried of what others think of America, but the people should only worry about it if they plan to travel to other countries. A bad American attitude hurts imports and exports. If you plan to just stay at home then there is nothing to worry about. There are certain countries that Americans should be worried about their options though:
Canada (major importer of vital goods like water and gas)
Mexico (major importer of everyday goods)
UK (importer of everyday goods)
The 7 Dragons (Japan, China, Korea, ...) (major importer of goods and services)
India (major exporter of services)

We shouldn't care. We need to take care of our country and let the others fend for themselves. Times here in US is getting to be harder. More to worry about. Cut our military down in Iraq and get our soldiers back. Let the other countries worry on their own. Get our country back on the right track.

No. Americans should do what they believe to be right and support the causes and issues they believe in regardless of what anyone else thinks.
