Junk mail gets Refused and returned to the Post Office (http://www.refuseyourmail.info)
Most of my bills come through email now, and even the ones that don't get paid automatically through direct debit from my checking account, so the rest of the mail tends to pile up in random places throughout the house until I finally get around to dealing with it.

It gets redistributed around the house! Bills and house stuff gets put in a folder, catalogues go in a pile and are sorted and recycled every so often. Magazines are kept, recycled or passed on depending which one it is! Junk mail just gets put in the paper bin. Its especially bad this time of year with every man and his dog sending out catalogues and flyers!

The bills I bring to work until they are paid, as I pay most all of them with online bill pay, then go in the shred bin when they are paid.
Things that cannot be recycled (envelopes with the clear plastic in the windows) goes into the trash.
Anything with my name and address, and credit applications of any kind are shred. Non-sensitive material that can be recycled go in the recycle bin. Paper shreds from the shredder go in the recycle bin when it fills up.
We don't get any magazines, but catalogs and the like are recycled, if there is no need to keep them, after they are looked at and the pages with my name and address have been torn out and shred. Ones that are kept go in the desk drawer.
Doing this every day reduces my clutter BIG TIME.
And I REALLY like diller's idea about the pre-paid envelopes. Very crafty and something I will start doing. Thanks!

Junk mail, catalogs, magazines and regular notices usually end up in the stuff to be recycled. There is a recycling program in town which most people use. Good way to save land fill space and reuse valuable material.

go through all of the stuff & save all of the pre paid postage envelopes. take a white lable & cover their address. Now you have free pre-paid envelopes!!!
magazines, can you afford the stuff in them or even interested in it? if not toss in the recycle bin.
If you do see something rip it out & file it.

It ends up in a pile on one end of the coffe table until I sort thru it. In the winter, I then burn it in the wood burning stove.
