I was never aware they had left.

You New York Fans, trying to escape reality by watching hockey, all sports baseball, football basketball, hockey they're all the same to be good you have to play good throughout the season, If the rangers don't be like the Giants, Knicks, Jets, Mets, and Yankees, they'll be fine.
The Rangers aren't the Knicks, Jets, or Yankees.

A Top 8-10 team? Are you crazy, try top 5 five. Obviously they have a lot of aging players considering dubinsky is 21, staal is 20, prucha is 25, dawes is 21, girardi is 24, toots is 23, callahan is 22, not to mention several really good players in the pipeline who are coming up. Even Avery and Gomez are only 27. Oh and I'm forgetting the king who will be the best goalie in the league over the next 10 yrs. Shannahan is the only "aging" player on the team, and he can still put up 25 to 30 goals.

Maybe your year would not be so crappy if you stopped watching the Yankees, Jets, and Knicks, and then concentrated on the only real sport to pray about. :) God, can only work one miracle at a time, might as well use your prayers appropriately :)

Hopefully.
I'm also a Yanks and Jets fan (I hate basketball though, plus I feel dirty rooting for more than one Dolan-run team), so I feel your pain.
The Rangers are my team though. Are they back? I think so.
The offense is starting to click. We scored four goals last night, for the 2nd time in a week (that's a big step forward), with four different goal scorers, on many lines. Three of the goal scorers were rookies, the other was Jagr, who needs to score. Gomez has a 7 game points streak, which is a good sign. Things are starting to come together offensively.
Defensively, things are great. Why that other posters said it's a question mark is beyond me. We gave up the 2nd fewest goals in the east last year, and we've given up the fewest in the league so far this year, despite having played more games than most teams. Henke looks great, I just hope Renney has enough sense to rest him frequently enough so that he doesnt wear down. Our PK is 4th in the league (i believe), and our PP is improving (though our 5 on 3s are still abysmal.)
I don't think the Rangers were ever out of it, it just took us a few games to get our acts together. But we'll be fine.
As far as the Yanks go... ugh. Don't get me started. Jets too. And being a knicks fan is just setting yourself up for defeat.

Back to a good level of play that will put them in the top 8-10 teams. Stanley Cup back is a long stretch. I assume they are going to get better as the season goes along and have money to purchase players who will fill gaps at the trading deadline..injuries and aging players notwithstanding they have a shot. How well their goalie holds up for the entire length of the season is also cause for concern.

Hook, gotta disagree about the defensive core. Staal is impressing more each game, Girardi as well--cool under pressure. Tyutin coming along as well-- remember they're young. They will only get better. I assume you're not a Rangers fan-- those who follow them know this. Without the big name, puck moving D man most assume the defence is suspect but ...just look at the numbers --- overall defense #1-2 in the league in goals against. That's not entirely Henke (although it helps!)

New York Rangers have the most potential in the league to do well with all those talented veterans but what I think they lack is a solid defensive core with depth but I wont be negative, the have great potential.

I refuse to get too excited until they're skating the Cup around the Garden ice. Every year for the past few they've had stretches of incredible play that have made me think "This is the year." Of course, it hasn't been. They should be a very good team this year, but there's still a lot of hockey left to play.
