her original sentence was 90 lashes and 2 months, but because she appealed the sentence it was increased. Her lawyer was stripped of his license to practice law and must go before a tribunal.
How can something like this happen in the United States. Or did it?

umm yea that's not in the unites states. I didnt read all of it but it mentiones Saudi, we dont have "lashes" i didnt even know what that was till i read the article. For some reason other countries have very f****d up ways of treating there victims. i could never live in a country that would allow that.

You might try actually reading the post--the incident occurred in Saudi Arabia--not the US. I've posted a much better article about the incident below.

What in the world are you who find this an opportunity to disparage liberals talking about? It's "the liberals" fault this happened? I can't see that this is the fault of any political party here in the US--unless you want to blame the entire government for continuing to support the Saudi Royal family.

First of all, as punishment the US does not dole out lashes. Secondly, the article says it took place in Saudi Arabia. Of course it's not right or just. It's just the backwards thinking of a country that treats animals better than they do their women.

You didn't read it did you??? A Saudi court not a US court. and she was given 90 lashes, and one of they guys who raped her received 80. It said that it was at a farm.

It happened in Saudi, it is illegal in many middle eastern countries for a woman to be outside the family home without a male relative as an escort.
