Have you noticed that Fox News has an overabundance of blond reporters and anchorwomen?

Why is that?

Do blonds make better reporters? What do other women on here think about that?

Blond sells. Look at axioms related to blonds. Most notably blonds have more fun. Then look at how many women color their hair blond. I can't support the next statement with facts, just because I am too lazy too look them up right now, but I suspect that it is probably the leading seller in hair color dyes. Blond hair is just very popular in our culture, followed closely by blue eyes. Personally I am not that big a fan of blond, I have always been more partial to redheads and brunettes. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I hate to say this, but I don't that Fox is the only news outlet that's guilty of this. For some reason, there is more pressure for female news anchors to be attractive than there is for male news anchors. (Actually, that applies in every area of life, unfortunately.) And for some reason, blondes often seem to be perceived as somehow more telegenic or photogenic than brunettes. Maybe they think blondes look sunnier than brunettes. I don't know.

The company is run mainly by men and, given the nature of the programming as well as the content, most of whom have little objectivity and a great deal of close-mindedness. This extends, perhaps, to their hiring practices which, as someone else has said, probably reflects patriarchial stereotyping within a cultural context that's at least a quarter century old. Just watch them start dumping some of those female employees as they age and wrinkle and grey...and that this continues to happen in this day and age is a pretty clear indication of how deeply patriarchy is entrenched in society.

24 hr cable news doesn't hire reporters or journalists to read the news. They hire models for telegenic purposes.

They are using the stereotype that blonds are more attractive but not as intelligent as other newscasters.

Maybe their audience prefers them that way.

Are they real blondes, or fake ones?
