Veggies first....only because, once they get their "sweet" on...it's hard to get them to eat the not so sweet stuff! :)

Everything I read at that stage said to start with fruits, then veggies. It wasn't until after the fact that I heard some people do it the other way so the baby doesn't get used to the 'sweet' taste first. I started my baby on the fruits first, and had no problem introducing the veggies a bit afterwards. To this day, I have no problem with my daughter eating plenty of fruits and veggies, and she is 3 yrs. old now. I don't think either way would be 'right or wrong', just letting you know what our experience was.

Most people start the fruits...because they are sweet. And I understand starting the veggies first. When they learn to like the veggies, the fruits are a joy. Both of them are unpleasant at first because it is new taste and new textures.

I feel that you should not even give them both at one sitting, because the enzymes in each if different and can cause gas to develop. Give fruits one meal and veggie another time. And my son loved his veggies more than the fruits. As a child a snack was a can of green beans. And he would still rather have a plate of steamed veggies over anything fruit.

And contrary to most folk.... children do not need meat. And there are a lot of other things we give them that they do not need but that's another article.

Once he mastered both rice cereal and oatmeal, I started with the yellow veggies, which are sweeter and more mild than the greens. Once he had a couple of them mastered (one new food every day for 7-10 days to watch for allergies), I introduced bananas, peaches (he hates peaches) and prunes. Now, he gets a veggie for lunch with a little bit of fruit for dessert.

We started my daughter with applesauce first. She still ate her veggies (still does at almost 2). Many say to start with the veggies b/c like the above poster suggested, they won't want the "blandness" of the veggies. One suggestion though...if you make your own baby food, don't season the baby's especially with salt. They did that with my step daughter (now 13) and she wouldn't eat regular baby food without them salting it. And now, she won't eat anything without adding salt

Use your judgement though because medically, I don't think it really matters. Sweet potatoes are always a favorite

Talk to your pediatrician to see what they recommend, first. At our office, we recommend the veggies first, for just the reason you said, usually if they get fruits first, they won't like the veggies. Also, we recommend that you only give one food for 4 days before you add another, that way if they have an allergic reaction to one, you don't have to guess what it was. Good luck!!

I used both is nthe same meal. It was interestion to see the contrast of facial expression, but actually, if you aren't going for polyvisol or other vitamin suppliment I wanted a broad range of vitamins. They also say meat is condusive to making a big brain (not size-wise of course) but I don't know if that's accurate or not.

I did cereal first, then fruits then veggies. It didn't seem to matter for my daughter.
It is really up to you and how you feel.
