One: rework the tax system so that there are no loopholes for the rich to use so they can avoid paying taxes.
Two: Get religion out of our political system. Place heavier restrictions on televangelists, so idiots like Pat Robertson can't use the airwaves to damage those he doesn't approve of.
Three: Restore environmental protections that were weakened by Bush
Four: Fix the campaign finance laws so that fake groups like the "Swift Boat Veterans" can't broadcast lies and also make sure that special interest money is completely removed from national politics.
Five: Allow Bush and Cheney to charged with war crimes for their acceptance and allowing of torture.
Also, restructure FEMA by removing it from Homeland Security so Katrina like incidents don't occur,
Expand the war on terror to include domestic threats from extremist militia and ultra right wing hate groups.(The ones that believe that there is a huge Zionist conspiracy controlling Washington politics.)
Finally, rework the elections systems to make sure neither side can manipulate the machines in their favor.

I'm not sure. But thinking about the last three Presidents mistakes. Here's what I wouldn't do. If I said, no new taxes. And the other party tried to get me to raise taxes. I'd reply what part of no new taxes didn't you understand? YOU want new taxes? YOU over ride my veto.

If I said I would bring those responsible to justice, I wouldn't pass up the chance to do just that. And I'd keep my zipper closed. If I didn't I'd admit to it.

I wouldn't be bogged down in Iraq. After the fall of Saddam I would have said OK folks, it's your country lock, stock, and oil barrel in not over 18 months. Less than that if you ask us to leave. After 18 months we are gone no matter what happens. You folks have a 3000 year history of being traders and negotiators, trade and negotiate. 18 months max. Read my lips.

I'll tell you a few things I wouldn't be able to do because the powers of the President are limited.

I can't control the economy.

Short of nationalizing companies I can't stop them from going overseas.

I can't control gas or oil prices. ( I know here are a lot in here that think Bush can--But he can't.)

I can't stop global warming. And I don't know that I should. After all with the exception of the Little Ice Age it's been occuring since the peak of the last Ice Age.

Here's some things I'd like to see.

Total rewrite of the tax laws. If you can't put the WHOLE thing in your back pocket. It's TOO big.

Congress be required to spend no more then the total tax income from the previous year.

All references to political parties be removed from ballots. No incumbent designations either.

I'd like to see a third party started that would take some of the power from BOTH major parties so no one party could pass any bill with a party line vote.

Change the Electoral College votes from a winner takes all to a proportional distribution.

I LOVE questions like this! Thanks for asking! I am going to rate these from 5 to 1. Meaning Number 5 is the one towards the bottom of the list, and number 1 is the thing that I feel most important:

5. I would lead the charge in reversing all tax laws that are helping the rich to get richer, and the poor to get poorer. The middle class in this nation is shrinking a t a horribly fast rate, and the upper class - a very few amount of people are getting away with murder as far as how they don't pay thier fair share of taxes, while the rest of us pay for them. It's inequality and it's wrong.

4. I would lead the charge in making poluting our environment a felony to large corporations, and help pass laws that make our nation the LEADER in the world to try and stop global warming, and reverse the effects of the carbon imprint that we are leaving on our planet!

3. I would re-establish good diplomatic relations between the U.S. and those we've isolated because of our involvement in Iraq. I'd find a diplomatic, but also responsible solution to withdraw the rest of our troops from Iraq, and at the same time protect our nation from terrorism, both home and abroad.

2. I'd lead the charge in passing constitutional amendments to end abortion rights, and ban gay marriage in this nation. The fabric of our country is strong families, and we cannot have strong families, and consequently a strong nation while we uphold laws that make sin acceptable, and kill our children. These two are mutually exclusive.

1. I would be a strong woman president with moral character, and leadership qualities that would earn and command respect. I would prove all the naysayers wrong. And if Hillary doesn't beat me to it, I would prove to the world that a woman CAN and if she is the right person for the job, SHOULD, lead this nation!

Anyone out there that would vote for me?? ;-) Either way, God Bless America!! We are the greatest nation on the face of the earth!

1) Restructure our Iraq Policy Secure Iraq's borders and basically bottle Iraq so that whatever happens in Iraq stays in Iraq.
2) Actually secure both borders, A combo of more border agents and national guard troops on our southern and Northern borders
3) Better standards for mortgage Lenders, basically in most states it get at least a 65 percent on a Multiple choice test, also reform the way we give and pay for Credit in the US make Credit card companies have higher minimum payments.
4) Medical Tort reform. also allow health insurance companies to compete across state lines basically similar to what we have done in the banking industry. This will get rid of the smaller less productive insurance companies. Also allow small businesses to band together so that they can purchase health insurance for their employees as if they were a large corporation.
5) Make the education system standard across each state. This will make it easier to judge what school districts are actually under performing and which ones are performing. You would be surprised how different the college prep curiculum can be from one state to the next.

EDIT: How do you make the death penalty more severe?

1) Change foreign policy
People seem to not understand that the reasons for most of our problems right now is foreign policy mistakes over the past half century. Iran, Iraq, North Korea, and Vietnam have all been treated with such disrespect and disreguard that it is little wonder why we have problems there today.
2) Get rid of the IRS
I would change the tax code and make it simple and understandable for everyone. Probably would institute a flat tax and move from there, but of course would be open to suggestions.
3) Shut down many government projects/agencies
Our government has grown to a ridiculously large level and the amount of beaurocracy and hypocricy coming from all levels is absurd. I would cut the IRS (see No.2) and also groups like the TSA and DEA.
4) Legalize many drugs that are illegal today
If there is one thing that disgusts me about having illegal drugs is that the legal drugs are at times just as bad for us, except they are brought to us by our loving pharmaceutical companies. Marijuana has little or no bad side-effects (except of course for laziness) and there is no good reason for it to be illegal. Also, if these things are legal and sold and taxed by the government, then that would make up for any kind of funding deficiency our government may have with the dissolution of the IRS and the tax code.
5) Let businesses run themselves
I would get rid of laws forbidding businesses to do things that are legal i.e. smoking bans. If someone does not want to frequent a restaurant or bar where smoking is allowed, then they can go to a different place. It should be up to the individual bar/restaurant owner what they want to do in the privacy of their own building/establishment...especially if what they are not allowed to do is legal in all other capacities (except of course for age)
6) (I know you asked for five but I've got one more) Get out of people's lives
The federal government is there to serve and protect its citizens, not to run their everyday lives. There are way too many laws on the books that disallow citizens to do things that affect absolutely no one outside of themselves and their families. If the crime you commit is against yourself then you should not be punished. It is your decision to make that choice and you hurt noone else in the process so your own pain and anguish ought to be enough of a punishment. Also, I would try to instill some of the principles a man by the name of George Washington talked about in his farewell address after his Presidency. He said that the reason this country will be able to succeed is due to the integrity and the ethical behavior of its citizens. Too many times nowadays, it seems that there is a complete lack of respect for other people and complete disreguard for what other people who may disagree. These people need to be heard and some of their ideas implemented in order to keep society moving forward and progressing. Democracy is supposed to be majority rule, but with a voice for the minority and that is something I would try to bring back.

1. Get out of debt and take all of the taxes and give it to the rich. Also, the money that we lended to these country should be given back to us to help us get back in the black. If the roles were reverse do you think that any country that despise us would actually provide us help and money. Dream on!!!

2. If the woman who has let the child support money lapse after two years (if its on purpose) should be denied payment. Not all deadbeat parents are men there are some women and they should get the same treatment as women. Which leads to women having a double standards when it comes to things like that and jobs.

3. Make it mandatory to have a much better education because this "no child left behind" program sucks and its not helping our children any better.

4. Make it a mandatory program for individual who want to get married and/or have children. The current parents don't know crap on how to raise children. Also, the marriage is a freaking joke. If you don't pass the program YOU SHOULDN'T GET MARRIED OR HAVE CHILDREN!!!

5. Return the power to the people and not to the government. Which means besides that our freedom of speech should be just that. Freedom of speech.

* 6. Make it mandatory for the people to drink and enjoy egg nog. No drinky noggy, person gets thrown in jail. That one I thrown in there for the holidays.

FIX:
Social Security so it cant be messed up again, and people can survive on it.
Health Care Reform for all across the board and equal for all.
Close the borders and reform the immigration
Reform the illegal immigration laws, and make it very strict, and punishable by the country of ones origin when caught here, punish any company using illegal workers harshly.
Put a cap on big business profits, and instill a trickle down effect for their employees, all the way to the janitor. NO CEO should be making millions of money when the workers make peanuts. This would be across the board, every business with American trade and ties, would pay higher wages/saleries based upon their profits.

Work toward meaningful campaign finance reform, to include publishing the voting record of all incumbant members congress.

Reinstate a strict quota system for immigration, similar to that in the first half of the 20th century. Close the border.

1.Constitutional ammendment overturning Santa Clara County vs Union Pacific Railroad, the USSC case that found a corporation to have the same rights and liberties as a "natural" person. Hold high ranking executives and major stockholders PERSONALLY responsible for corporate wrongdoing, meaning jail time and seizure of PERSONAL assets.
2. Constitutional ammendment requiring that government interfere in private consesual behavior of adults ONLY if such behavior can be shown to infringe directly on the rights of others.
3.A comprehensive energy-environmental policy that includes building codes, community planning, radical changes in our transportation system, and more.
4.A comprehensive social policy that protects workers from the undue intrusion of business into their private lives. In some nations, non-essential businesses are required to close early 2-3 nights a week so that citizens are assured of opportunities for family life and civic involvement. This is NOT an undue intrusion of government into business operations, but We the People protecting ourselves from the undue intrusion of business into our personal and civic lives.
5.Single payer health care.
