36 inches in 1 yard, so there are 228 inches in 5 1/2 yards.

There are 3 barleycorns in 1 inch, so there are 228 x 3 barleycorns in a rod - 684 barleycorns.

What is a barleycorn???

I got a different answer. There are 36 inches in one yard. So five yards would be 36 x 5 = 180. 1/2 yard is 18 inches. 180+18 =198. Since one barleycorn is 1/3 of a inch. 5 1/2 yards or one rod would hold 3x198 or 594 barleycorns.
That's my answer 594 barleycorns.

Home Depot or Lowe's. Make it Lowe's since Jimmy Johnson won a Las Vegas this week. Or if you live in a city large enough to have a drapery shop & curtain shop they'll have them. You can also try Sears. Their stores usually care things like that.
