Ok my baby shower is this Saturday and I just want it to go great. So my question is what really makes a great baby shower? is it the food, the games, what? I'm just adding on the last touches for the party so any suggestions would be nice.

i think organization is key. the last baby shower i went to was TOTALLY unorganized. everything LOOKED good, they rented an expensive place, decorated to a tee, food was good.
but nothing ran right. they started an hour late, the games were kinda a free for all, and the mama opened her prensents in one corner of the room where you really couldnt see what was going on.
good luck! and congrats!

I'm sure that your shower will be great no matter what... everyone is there to see you and to celebrate the miracle you will be adding to you family.

That being said, my favorite things about showers are the food and ambiance. The food should be yummy, but simple and easy to eat. In regards to ambiance, I'm not saying that it has to be fancy or anything, but I've been to a couple of showers where they just put a few bowls of pillow mints on the tables and called the decorations good. This sort of sets the mood for a non-impressive shower. Decorating with flowers or balloons really sets the mood and gets people excited.

I do like games, but I would keep them limited by time and only do the games that are really fun. I went to a shower once where one of the games was to have everyone go around in a circle and say their name and how they knew the mommy-to-be. At the end, they had a contest to see who could remember everyone's names. It literally took 45 minutes to play the game and most of the people were restless and bored.

Also, try to be quick about opening presents. I'm not saying you need to rush or anything, but try to keep it timely. Opening gifts can take a very long time and I know that I tend to get very bored when the guest of honor slowly takes each item out, carefully making sure not to rip or wrinkle any tissue paper, then slowly rewraps everything and places is back in the bag/box. A tip for this would be to ask someone to be your helper with organizing your gifts. You can open the gifts, show them to your guests, then hand the gifts to your helper who will then organize or re-situate them accordingly.

Have fun and congratulations on your expected bundle of joy!

In order of what makes the shower great:

Good friends/family
FOOD - and a pretty cake too ooh and ahh over
Games- Fun and simple
simple but cute decorations to give it good atmosphere

Don't stress, anything will do from simple to elaborate. Watch for cues from others (looking at watches, etc) to make sure your not over doing it on time. HAVE FUN!

I just had mine a few weeks ago. Like someone said earlier, organization is key!! Have a basic timeline of what you want to occur. If you have it planned for about 3 hours, then use this as a basic timeline.

Food- Plan on about an hour. No one likes to feel rushed to eat. Also, make sure you're getting up and going around to socialize with everyone during this time. That way you don't really have to do it AFTER everything is done and over with. Some people will hang around for hours if they didn't have a chance to catch up with you before hand.

Games- Also, an hour. Some people don't like games. So you don't have to worry about everyone playing. Make sure any of the games that require a time keeper has one that is good about staying on task. Also, depending on how many people are there and how many games you want to play, you may have to sort of double them up. At my shower we played the game where each player had one minute to pick safety pins( tiny ones) out of a bowl of rice while being blindfolded. Because that game would take awhile, we had 2 bowls of pins and rice set up so it went much much faster. Also, make sure you have an excellent prize person. It's nice to give the guests an option for what prize they pick, but don't give them too many at once. Have two or three prizes in a bag and that's it. If you put all of them in their faces at one time, you'll be there forever!!

Cake- Start serving cake after games. It'll go alot faster if you have several people passing pieces out to the guests that way they don't have to get up. Especially since people tend to linger when they get out of their chairs.

Gift opening- Do that WHILE the cake is being eaten. As soon as they pass out all the cake, start right in with opening the gifts. Make sure you have 2 helpers. One to pass the gifts to you and one to sit off to the side and write down who got you what. You don't have to take out each individual item. If someone got you a bag full of bibs, you can announce what they purchased and glance through them yourself. If you see something cute that sticks out, then by all means, show it off. Now if someone gets you one outfit, a bib, a pair of socks and a hat...then yes, show that off. Depending on how many people show up and how many gifts you have, plan on about an hour. And if you get done sooner than that, then great!! Thank everyone for showing up. Go around and try and "see" each person off and you're done!! Lol

Mine is this Saturday too. I've always enjoyed just sitting with people, talking and eating when at other peoples showers. I also always liked it when the gifts would be opened. Some things are just too cute.

How lots you opt for will matter on the style of travellers you have (and how a procedures alongside the mum-to-be is!) Have the mum-to-be stand interior the midst of the room. each and every visitor could analyze her abdomen. next, bypass the scissors and the spool of ribbon around the room. each and every visitor could decrease the quantity of ribbon that they think of will bypass around the tummy of the mum-to-be. the guy with the closest decrease wins you additionally can play: Fill a jar with toddler risk-free practices pins or maybe some jellybeans (pastel colours) count selection them as you place them interior the jar. on the bathe bypass the jar around and have each and every visitor attempt to guess what number pins or beans are interior. the closest selection is the winner.
