I dislike baseball anymore anyway, but for those who want to enjoy a game can't because of these huge salaries. My friend and his family went to a Oakland A's game this year, 2 adults, 2 children, and it cost over 600 dollars for the day. Thats unacceptable. We need to let these players and owners that REAL life is more important than their stupid sport.
If something is not done, it will only get worse in the future, and those in the middle class will not be able to enjoy a live sporting event. A shame how bad this sport got anyway. I stopped watching normal games after the last strike. If A-Rod gets all that cash? I am done with it, as I am sure thousands of others will be too. Hopefully when and if he gets the cash his wife will divorce him and get HALF! Wooooo Hoooooo you go girl! Take HALF!

It really is ridiculous that these sports players get paid all this money. Granted they are more talented than your average joe, but without a teacher educating them; How would they make it to play MLB??
I don't agree with the money they get paid either, but what can you do?! I'm hooked intoit like many others are.
At the end of the day it's a business trying to make a dollar just like any other.

The Yankees had the highest payroll in baseball, but you could still get bleacher tickets for $12 a piece or upper deck seats for $20 a piece. I go see the Diamondbacks occasionally and I get two bleacher seats, a program, and food for under $50. If you know someone who spent $600 on an A's game they did it by choice because there are tickets to A's games for as low as $9.
Also who cares how much the players make? You don't pay their salaries and ticket prices are still very reasonable compared to other sports. Think of it this way, baseball owners get 81 home games a year, twice as many as basketball, 10 times as many as football. They charge much less for tickets because the volume of sales is higher. Inversely, baseball players get paid less per game than football players do. To sum up baseball players play 162 games a season, football players play 16. The contracts are valued accordingly and tickets are priced accordingly.

$600??? What, did they go to the game AND buy a big screen tv? You might pay $600 for a couple world series tickets but NEVER an Oakland A's game. Sorry, but that's just impossible.
It's supply and demand. If the owners are making millions of dollars off of their players hard work then the players are going to be entitled to make more money. A-Rod, whether you like him or not, is worth the money. He draws tv ratings, increased merchandise sales and he might be one of the greatest players to have ever played the game. Think about it, which ever team signs him will have him break the homerun record in their uniform and probably enter the hall of fame in their uniform. Unless he gets injured, it's a great investment for a team.

My opinion? 1: you're a freaking idiot
2: 6 bills for 4 people? I take my wife & 3 kids to Dodger Stadium for under $200
3: Boycott idea would work only in theory, because the contracts are GUARANTEED. What it would do is put baseball out of business.
If you don't like baseball anymore, fine, but leave us that do alone. I'm not defending these ridiculous salaries, but we are on a slippery slope and there's no turning back now.

If you think anyone in baseball cares whether or not the middle class can enjoy a live sporting event i'm afraid you're being naive. Baseball has become extremely corporate and would like nothing better than to become even more so.

If your friend was dumb enough to spend $600 to go to a game, he should have left his kids at home.
I am all for people making the most amount of money they can. I one day would love to make a salary as high as A-Rod's. I will never complain about the amounts athletes make. They entertain me to no end, and that is good to me.

If you stop going to games, it really won't make that much of a difference. The teams make most of their money on TV deals and merchandise sales. Also, did the $600 include airfare or something?

Your friends family must be big eaters because tickets to A's games run $9 to $44 which is well within reason.

I agree that while the salaries are nuts its only fair. I mean if they dont get paid then the team and TV companies are the only ones making millions and billions for a players talent.
Why should they not make millions if they are the ones we are paying to see?
