Without a date it is simply month to month. She needs to give a 30 day notice, but that is it.

Did it have any time duration on it, like say one year lease? If so, she'd have to prove that she had been there for a year and fulfilled the lease, by showing something like cancelled rent checks. This is if there just was no start date on it - although that would be very sloppy procedure of the landlord.

If it didn't say anything about how long the lease was for, then she might be able to.

The majority of leases say a time span (1 year, 6 months, or month to month basis). She needs to read over her lease and see what it says and if it's a month to month lease or has no time/date then she can leave at anytime; however, it's best to give 30 days notice.
