I work for a living and pay taxes - so what exactly is your question again?

Working people are conservatives and conservatives are working people. Conservatives understand that it is the "rich" that already pay the majority of all federal taxes and in my state that trend is the same. The lower 40ish % pay either none or very little in federal taxes and again in my state, barely any state tax as well as having property taxes capped at 1.8% of income. If you are among the bottom 40ish% and you have a child or two, it is likely that you also get other peoples money back in the form of earned income and the child tax credit.
Example, I made approx $30k last yr, paid in about $800 to the feds but got back over $3000 meaning I got back over $2200 MORE than I paid. To my state I paid about $300 and got back $1100 meaning I got $800 MORE than I paid. My property tax bill was $3400 but I got a check from the state to cover $1700 of that. - Some wealthier person had to pay more to make up the difference.
This is the reality of the tax system and even lower income people know it. Conservatives are more likely to be grateful for the assistance while liberals are more likely to believe it is their birth right.

If the wealthiest 1% owns 80% of the stuff, then the wealthiest 1% should pay 80% of the taxes. People who stay in a 5 star hotel get more benefits than people who stay at EconoLodge; you expect to pay more to stay in a 5 star hotel than you pay at EconoLodge. People who have a taxable income of over $700K year after year after year are obviously benefitting more from America's opportunities that are people with taxable incomes of $20K and less; you benefit more and you should expect to pay more.

It seems insane to me that INVESTMENT income is taxed at a lower rate than LABOR income. But since the rich and powerful are usually members of the INVESTMENT CLASS, not the LABOR CLASS, it's not surprising that the rules favor INVESTORS over LABORERS.

Notes. (1) The 1% and 80% aren't "real" numbers, just numbers I pulled out of the air for examples. (2) A retiree living off mutual funds and municiple bonds is NOT a member of the investment class. If you spend most of your life supporting yourself by going to work, rather than by collecting dividends, then you are a WORKER -- even if you do own $999K+ worth of stocks and other investments.

If they paid more taxes they couldn't buy an island off of Dubai. Sheesh. Wouldn't you rather see the middle class lose affordable health care than the rich go without little luxuries like islands?

Edit- VTJAMES, obviously you missed the news special where Warren Buffet stated he only pays 17.7% of his income to tax yet the majority of people he employs paid on average 32.6%. Yes the wealthy will pay more overall, obviously, but the percentage they pay is less than those in the middle class. Why shouldn't the rich pay 32.6% and the middle class pay the 17.7%. Nobody needs billions of dollars that they'll never spend when you have hard working people that barely get by. 32.6% tax on a million still leaves a lot of extra income to play with.

If you're talking about income taxes, the conservatives should not have to pay any.

They really do not think this, despite a spooky sense of entitlement. They just SAY this to keep tax policies in place that burden the shrinking middle and struggling working classes in the US. They try to pretend that our infrastructure (police, banks, roads, water systems- all tax paid) did not help them make their $$$. Lets see them try to grow a business in like Sudan right now, or some other place with crappy services and total unrest.

Good point. Passive income should be charged at the higher tax rate.

you have it backwards...why should conservatives pay taxes and many democratics pay nothing and get everything...I believe there should be a flat tax...period...why should I pay for someone who refuses to work...at least the consveratives are fighting for no taxes...when the democratic are trying to buy votes...
