AH, I think your wanting to do something more exciting is wonderful. Why not bring the mass up to date, so that the younger generation could actually enjoy it? Everyone pretty much knows what to expect at the mass. Is it possible to have two different ones? You could have one that is the standard, because, if you don't, the older Catholics will be upset. You could have one that involves the Catholics in the congregation more than usual....extra singing.......more guitar and such to get people involved. One for the youth of the congregates. The church letter should explain the times and differences, clearly. Of course, that means the priest(s) would have to do it twice, so, it may not work. But, hey! you could ask!!

Please remember this is MASS, and there are rubrics for how it has to be celebrated.

Dancing is absolutely not allowed in a Catholic Mass ever under any circumstances. I know you'll see liturgical dance sometimes, but it is not acceptable for part of the Mass.

Your pastor will have to approve anything you want to do. Are you talking about your youth group, or the choir? Our choir does a concert before Mass, sort of like a prelude. We sing some standard carols and the congregation joins in, and we intersperse some choral pieces...our fancy stuff.

I'm not trying to ruin your fun, but this is Mass, and you can't change it.

The coolest thing they ever did at my church, which was Protestant. Was on Christmas Eve they had a service at
11 o'clock at night and concluded at midnight.
The front of the church where the minister stood was very dimly lite and candles lite the rest of the church. It made Christmas Eve even more special.

Do a play. Our church every year used to do a cantata. It got people together to tell the christmas story all over again. Then, people with talents would either sing, play an instrument, and the choir would back them up. That would be awesome!

Our church does this every year, just not directly on christmas

There is a procession of candles to outside. Mass is then held outside, basically under the stars. Theres also a bonfire.
