It is documented that Edwards came up from struggling working class parents and got his $$ suing big companies on behalf of regular folks. Isn't this what all of us aspire to do- The American Dream? The truth is that they are all rich people (congress, candidates) but he seems to be bringing up issues relevant to working people. Isn't he a totally Horatio Algier kinda guy? Isn't this a guy Dems and Repubs could relate to? Whats up with the press dissmissals and character assassinations (based on dubious stuff).

* Didn't MOST of our congress people and our candidates come from a Law background? It seems like it. So why is he singled out.
* Even with some slimy lawyers, isn't it great that we live in a country with laws and we can call a lawyer when we need one?

My question was WHY IS ONLY EDWARDS singled out for this, when our reps are almost all lawyers- and some are shady business men as well? Aren't more of them "ambulance chasers?"

Mr. Edwards is singled out for the hypocrisy of his "Two Americas" message. He claims to be in touch with the poor, less educated masses and singularly qualified to represent their wishes and needs in comparison to the other candidates.
His qualifications that he presents have to do with his childhood, which, based on his lifestyle, etc., doesn't seem to have had much of an impact on him.
His sincerity is the key point here and he seems to be lacking. Yes, he has been a big success. Unfortunately it is in the sector of the economy in which "shyster" was developed as a term describing the practitioners. Medical malpractice has developed into an industry focused on turning personal tragedy into monetary gain. Please don't ask us to see this as a positive trait.
Mr. Edwards is not a contitutional lawyer, he is not a corporate lawyer, he is not a prosecuting attorney, he is not a defense lawyer, he is a plaintiff's lawyer. Someone who makes his living by suing those who may or may not have committed negligence. Fine, and perhaps needed but, by any rational viewpoint, overdone in the United States.
I hope that helps. It isn't because he is a successful lawyer. It is because he is a successful personal injury lawyer who is claiming an ability to better represent the poor in America. It is the hypocrisy of his stance that makes him a target.

If you're not rich then you might as well not run for President in this country. It's just something that Conservatives sitting in their big mansions and on their ranches have come up with to slam Edwards because they can't find anything else. If that's all you can divulge on a man then he must be a very decent man. Does anyone have a clue how much money Bush and Cheney have or how much Cheney has made off Halliburton in Iraq? But you won't hear a Republican say anything about that. Double standard, big time!

Edwards has gotten some good press, just not enough of it. The media focuses on Hillary and Obama. Edwards is a populist. He reminds me of RFK. The corporations have bought Hillary, so they're against him. He is big on health care reform, he is against expanding NAFTA, and he is in favor of climate change and energy independence iniatives, all of which the corporations feel would hurt them. I think Edwards would be a great President and would certainly bring the country together more than Hillary. And Elizabeth Edwards is the best thing he's got going for him, a truely classy person. I hope more people look into him.

this is relaxing to hate "those grasping trial legal professionals" till somebody you know or God forbid your newborn is injured. In our criminal equipment, funds is the potential via which we make human beings entire. this isn't any longer a acceptable equivalent (in any respect) although this is the equipment we've. So while, working example, a three 365 days previous is rendered completely disabled, i think of it particularly is extremely merely that a jury awards her a multi-million greenback contract, to enable her mothers and dads to shelter her, pay for destiny operations and scientific care, alterations to the kinfolk homestead which comprise wheelchair ramp, e.g.

The reason he ran the 1st time is because he knew he would not get re-elected here in NC. He was a total flop as a Senator. He earned his money using junk science that today would not even get him in the door of a court house. He is an ambulance chasing pretty boy who sold snake oil to the juries. He served about 1/2 term in the Senate, then went AWOL to run for President. He was unable to bring one single southern state into the Win column for John Kerry. If he is even still around that long in the Primaries, I do not believe he will carry either North or South Carolina.

any success breeds contempt and jealousy. It would be more so if while asending u have rubbed the rich and mighty.
If he claims on healthcare and has sued dostors, he knows where is the weakness and to be eliminated.
No where press is neutral . Each press has its own hues.
It is no crime to make money by legal means.
If women can employ clevage to trap voters , Ed is far better candidate .

The press claims that some of his many lawsuits were frivolous. I don't know enough about it to judge him, but, as an aspiring pre-law student, I certainly think that John Edwards must know what he's doing when it comes to law.

I agree, that is what our country is founded on. Anyone can achieve the American dream by working hard and he has done it. Politics today is all based on half truths, innuendos and sound bites. I like the fact that he is not afraid to bring up important issues.
We are not fools we know to run for President one has to be wealthy, but everyone is quick to judge him for haircuts etc...
All other candidates, fly on private jets, get expensive clothes and haircuts, whats the big deal, its their money.

Yes,but no one should be a millionaire, people should have enough to live on comfortably.Nonetheless,Edwards made his money representing plaintiff's cases, most notably the tobacco manufacturers. That is why Bush and the Republicans hate him as well as defense attorney's and plaintiff suits. That's why the y want to put restrictions on damage awards and criminal justice reform

HOOCH (#1 ANSWERER) FORGOT TO MENTION THAT
ALL OF THE REPUBLICANS RUNNING ARE
SPOON FED MILLIONAIRES
Most people on here are clearly the types who deride Edwards simply for being an "ambulance chasing trial lawyer" but of course that's because they're simply parroting back the drivel they've been spoonfed all their lives. Here's a summary of Edwards' most famous case:
John prosecuted a claim on behalf of a 3 yo girl whose intestines were literally sucked out of her body when she sat down over a powerful suction pump in a kiddie pool which was inadequately covered by a flimsy plastic piece, leaving her dependent on medical assistance which would cost her and her family millions of dollars during her lifetime.
Testimony from pool design expert witnesses showed that a sturdy suction cover could have been provided at a cost of only an additional 25 CENTS, yet the defendants chose to utilize the flimsy plastic piece TO SAVE A MEASLY 25 CENTS PER PUMP.
That's how much businesses care about you. Your safety wouldn't be worth 25 CENTS to them if it weren't for people like Edwards.
