First he opts out of his contract. Why? Was it money? No, of course not. He clearly didn't want to play in New York anymore. I'm sure he still doesn't. Then he releases some bold faced lie statement saying "I never wanted to leave"..."Cynthia and I love it in New York"..."I could have talked to other teams and got more $$$"...Translated to the truth this means "Nobody was going to pay me the 30 Million I wanted over 12 years-nobody will pay me what I make now-so I guess I'm STUCK in New York and I better go to them and beg for my job so I can keep the wife happy with all the loot those suckers are paying me". This guy and his idiot agent were sure teams were dying to offer him 330 Million, nobody was. Now he plays at a ridiculous price for a team he clearly wants nothing to do with. Worst-he lies about it-acts like he did NYY a favor. Funny how NYY don't trust him or his agent isn't it? This guy wouldn't be happy anyhwere he played. Wasn't happy in Seattle, Texas or NYY. Comical.

First 2 posters must be NYY fans in denial. I'm not the only one that sees it this way.

Yes...you are right. When you make 25 million a year you opt out of a contract because you like playing for that team. Does that make any bit of sense? Or was he just so hard-up for money he opted out to get an extra 2.5 million $ out of New York per year...come on now. He opted out for one reason-to get out.

All the NY sports writers had it right when it first came out, Boras over played his card, grand standed the Red Sox in their World Series win and helped make his client the most hated man in baseball. Boras is a phoney and this episode just knocked him off his pedestal and he represents a bunch of over paid under achievers. Jeter won't be happy that this moron is coming back and I was hoping that he would make an complete *** out of himself and have to sign somewhere else for half of his original asking price.

I don't know why people are so fascinated by this schmuck, he's a big pussy (cat) who has yet to prove his worth in the postseason.

What's laughable is the YANKEES. First they say they won't negotiate with A-ROD (not Boras, A-Rod) if HE opts out because that means that he doesn't want to be a Yankee if he opts out. I love that NYY fans are trying to twist it like they said they wouldn't negotiate with Boras but they had no problem w/ A-ROD! Geez, just look at the news archives at any baseball site to see that's not true. Then what happens, 1 phone call and they're days away from a 10 year deal. SUCKERS!!!! He had them all the time and played them like a fiddle!!!!
What's even better all the stupid NYY fans & NY media who have been trashing him and bad mouthing him over the last few weeks will now take it all back and say they knew he'd come back. You're all losers because the "CURSE OF THE A-ROD" will now live on indefinintly! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

I don't really see this the same as you. I think that A-Rod was influenced by his agent into thinking that he could make more money elsewhere, when in reality he could not. A-Rod seemed to be much better in the Yankees clubhouse last year and he was well liked by the fans last year. I think A-Rod does want to still be a Yankee but he realizes at the same time that if he can make more money elsewhere then he should go there. Baseball is a business and A-Rod wanted to maximize the amount of money he made in his career. I can't blame A-Rod for trying to get the most money he could possibly get. I do think that he should have went about it differently. It was crazy that he opted out during the World Series. That was completely classless.

He opted out because he wanted more money and his agent had this idea that he could be marketed as the 'guy who saved baseball by beating Bonds' HR record'.
However, most teams probably realized that two or 3 players whos salary adds up to $30 mil is better than one player who's salary is $30 mil.

I don't know that he has fired Boras, just kept him out of the NYY conversation.

I think most people would be just fine if he came out and said "Listen, I want to be the highest paid player and I really don't care where I go"

However, if the Yankees go back to negotiate after saying "if Arod opts out, that's it for us", they will look really weak.

As long as they are ok with that, negotiate away.

AROD or what ever is his name is idiot i have to agreed with you this guy only cares about the money and putting good numbers during the regular season.
I don't cared if he signs back with the Yankees as longs a he continue putting horrible numbers in the playoffs when it counts the most. The yankees will never win a world series with arod in the roster, write it down because is going to become a true fact in the near feauture. This player reminds me of kobe Bryant, both players only care about themselfs and putting goods stats and neither one cares about their teamates.
AROD ONLY HAS ONE THINK IN HIS MIND $$$$ HE COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE YANKEES. But the yankees are the only team the can paid him $290m nobody else will.

Baseball is a joke for not being able to limit the amount of money a player can make. Baseball players are barely physical in their sport, at best 75% in shape (not all of course) and for the amount of money this scuz bag will get is ridiculous. Baseball and sports fans in general that are so caught up in a sport need counseling. So he makes uber money... what has he done for you in your life? for that matter what has baseball done for you in your life to make your life better?

I say boycott baseball so the owners can't pay these idiots that much. OR for every million they pay a player they need to put a million in the community around them. That will damn sure cut the salaries.

The main reason for my rant? A normal family of four CAN'T afford to go to a baseball game anymore, or football game for that matter. Normal family, normal income, normal life. Not an obsessed fan that does nothing but rave over a stupid team with over paid athletes.

NO what is laughable and pathetic is that even though Boras was supposedly held out of the current negotiations, he will still make at least $14 million if this deal goes through...

Nice paycheck for doing absolutely nothing except making your client look even worse while not helping your image at all...

It's VERY laughable! Obviously his agent was trying for more money and the result was a big time backfire. When no other teams made an offer, A-Snob must've figured it was better to deal (and get paid by) the devil you know!

specific, he's severe. The reporter extremely did ask Obama that. Obama spoke back that its unhappy and went right into a touch greater element. He did say that it became into stable that baseball sees it has a undertaking and is working to restoration it, and that he's annoying related to the consequence it ought to have on the youngsters.
