add like u add in equations , add the free together & the i together
5-3+8 +(5-1-2)i =10 + 2i

Just add numbers seoarayely and ad to sum of imaginary parts:
5-3+8 +(-2-1+5)i = (10 +2i)

you should separate the problem in to parts:
numbers and i
5-3+8=10
-2i-i+5i=(-2-1+5)i=2i
so answer is
10+2i

First clear the ( ) by distributing the subtraction and addition
5 - 2i - 3 - i + 8 + 5i
Now collect like terms

10 + 2i
