I screwed up and got an undergraduate degree in liberal arts. Now I am unemployed and living with the folks. What is the best degree in computers that I can get that will make me the most money and easiest to find a good job with? A master's in computer science? Or something else?

Thanks for the answers. I really don't have a preference for jobs--whatever makes the most money is the one that I want. After looking for jobs, it seems that computer and tech jobs are the most in demand but it just gets confusing which type of degree is the best to make the most money. Still wish I had not gone the liberal arts route--I only went for that degree because it was the quickest to graduate based on transferring my high school credits.

Your screw up wasn't getting a degree in the liberal arts, your screw up wasn't utilizing yourself and your degree, you should have gotten internships and other experience. Sucks that many schools don't tell liberal arts students that hey, you're not just going to go from point A to B like your nursing degree peers, you've got to do some things along with it.

EDIT* I've heard jobs in computer programming can be good.

Here, on this site for the Occupational Outlook Handbook, I did a quick search for "computer" and it came up with these results, maybe it can give you some ideas:

If I were you I would start with A.S. in Computer Science and specialize in some group or Operationg Systems or Applications. Or even some certification tests, eith on thier own or while you are in your A.S. program. Try to research specific certifications you can get without going back into a 2-4 yr program.

Going the Master's route may be a bit much for you unless you are really sure you can handle the work load and afford it. Is IT what you really want to do as a career? You gotta think about that. Sure there is great much money to be earned, but you have to think about the long term as well.

Good Luck!

NONE. Computer Science is the territory of large mainframe computers and there are fewer of those all the time.

If you have an interest in ANYTHING else then get that and tie computers into it. Thats the sweet spot in computer learning these days. No matter what field, computers are getting into it. Medical, legal, police, fire fighter, wildlife management, etc etc.

With a liberal arts degree, maybe you have an interest in marketing? Or graphics? Head that direction. Tie in computer learning. That will put you at the front of some interesting job hires.

Software Engineer loaded Masters of Computer Science. I make in excess of $100,000. I am an Electrical Engineer with a Masters in Computer Science. I work on transportation control systems, humans seldom even see my computers.

A Masters in Business Administration is also a good way to make money but be willing to put up with a lot of hassle and 4-10 years of low paying jobs.
