I started using them about a year ago and yes it gets easier and you need to use the regular kind with a plastic applicator because it's easier to put it in. The kind I use is Playtex Gentle Glide. Plus, get some KY gel to help put it in. And if it's in correctly you won't feel it at all and if it's not you will and just get a new one and try again. You'll get the hang of it. When I first started I went through almost two boxes before I got it right.

I started using tampons the first day of my first period. lol.
All you'll need is some practice.
You'll see that on the tampon, at the point when the two parts connect, there are usually little ridges. Those are there to help you grip it without your fingers slipping. Grip it with two fingers there, then insert it gently until your fingers touch yourself. (As far in as you can get it.) Then slide the tampon in, and remove the applicator.
It the tampon is in correctly, you won't even feel it. If you can feel it, then it isn't in far enough. Just keep practicing...you'll get it, and they will make your life so much easier.
On a side note---if you have a very heavy flow, you might want to make sure you at least have a panty liner on with it, just in case of a leak. Tampons are usually good at not leaking, as long as you change them often enough, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

change them in front of ppl? that is nasty go to the bathroom no matter what any one says go to the bathroom!
try wetting down there w/ just some water or light lube and do it slow it has nothing to do w/ being a virgin or not it just takes time and practice
i have been using them for 5 years and im not a virgin and some times it still hurts and is kinda hard to put in
another tip don't leave them in more then 3 or 4 hours because you can get really sick make sure you read that paper that comes w/ the box of tampons atleast once
good luck

It gets easier. I was 19 before I was comfortable using tampons. Get the really tiny skinny tampons and try take a deep breath and when you let out the breath that's when you try to put it in. Good luck!

you hate having pads im assuming during gym.... putting a tampon in will take a short amount of time to master. try doing it sitting on the toiler or standing with a leg up, find whatever postion makes it easier for you. You know you have it in properly if you cant feel it doing normal activities. as long as you put it in far enough you are good.

It will get easier. You should buy the regular size tampons and get the gentle glide. They really do go in gently. It is awkward at first but it will be ok, just don't give up. Tampons are the best invention ever! Much more comfortable.

It will get easier as you get more used to them. I hated pads and it took me a period or two to get used to the tampons. You have to get the right angle and the right kind of tampon. I don't like the cheap one they were always a pain, get a plastic applicator. Good Luck

Yes, overtime it will become easier once you get to hang of it.
You just need to get used to it.
I recommend trying out OB tampons, they have no applicator so you put it in yourself but then you touch yourself so if you don't want to do that then don't buy those.
Good luck.

yes, it will get easier with practice. If you sit down and feel discomfort the tampon is not placed properly, you shouldn't feel it, you should push it up as far as you can. I always wear a pantyliner with a tampon to be extra sure.
