... just for the ladies on my list? My fiance is buying for the guys.

I'm trying to streach my money as far as I possibly can this Christmas... we have 2x more gals than guys and with both of our families combined there are a LOT of people to buy for. We were still wanting to put away some money for the wedding this month AND have enough cash to travel to his parents' house this Christmas (they live out of state).

I was thinking about knitting scarves & hats for the ladies (in their favorite colors) and maybe purchasing hand made candles to match. Now, after finishing my fourth scarf & hat set, I'm having doubts. They turned out as well as I'd hoped but are these really good gifts?

Ladies, if you got this present from your sister, sister-in-law-to-be, daughter, etc. would you think she was a cheap?

Handmade gifts are the best kind. I think the hats are scarves with coordinating candles is a wonderful idea. If my daughter-in-law made any kind of effort to please me, I'd be thrilled. One of my sisters gives me gift cards. They're always to stores I like (Michael's crafts!) but to me, that's just lazy. If we're going to start that, we should buy our own presents and display them at Christmas.

A gift made from the heart is never the wrong thing. Cold weather demands hats and scarves. They are practical gifts and I'd like to get them from a sister or relative. It is not a cheap gift. Yarn is expensive and if you figure the number of hours you've spent making them times minimum wage, the gift is pretty expensive.

Every year on my husband's side we have a gift exchange. We spend $25 total for the one name we draw. We can buy two gifts, but we have to make at least one of the gifts we give. It's great. You never know who has your name till Christmas day and you never know what you're going to get. Some of my husband's family are very crafty. They make wood puzzles, quilts, painted items, candy, egg noodles.....
Your gift would be met with plenty of oooos and aaaahhhs.

Don't second guess yourself. Homemade sounds perfect.

I think that it means even more since you went through the time and effort to knit them and thought enough about them to make the hats sets in their favorite colors. It shows a lot more thought and effort than if you went to the store and spent tons of money on them. I think that it's a nice idea and that the ladies will like them.

I love scarves and hats..I wish someone would give me that as a gift but don't forget the gloves instead of the candle,,last year this is what i gave to all my nieces and they used my gift more than any other gift they received..

I think it's nice. It's unfortunate that more people don't make homemade gifts........I don't think it's cheap.....I think it's caring! It takes time & consideration to do what you're doing, it should make the store-bought gifts seem less appealing.....as not nearly as much love went into creating them! I love hats and scarves anyway.........if they don't appreciate them fully, send one to me! Don't doubt yourself! They'll love them!
Have a great one & keep up the good work.

and despite another fact that Dario Franchitti's wife managed to conspicuously thrust herself into the background of every shot of the Target Chip Ganassi Racing pits, not once did Vince Welch or that Rick DeBruhl guy stick a microphone in her face.

Its the thought that counts. But...how would you like to get a scarf and hat. Maybe just get them a really nice chirstmas card. Not something that they will shove in a box and only take out when you come visit.
