i dopt think you need it, all you gotta do is make sure nothing is covering the fan, and not to back it to close to a wall/table etc

NO, you don't need an intercooler for the PS3. The PS3 will not overheat as long as it has the proper air flow. Also, it is normal for the PS3 to operate pretty warm, so don't worry about it.
I've had my 60GB PS3 for 11 months and I have never had any hardware failure or overheating problems. Sony did a good job in making a durable console.

Nope I have had my PS3 scince the day they were released and sometimes leave it downloading stuff for up to 48 hours and it is fine.
There strap on cooler fans are terrible, a friend of mine got a cooling sleeve from play.com and he put it on his ps3 and after a while it overheated and sony had to replace his ps3
The PS3 is better built than the Xbox360 and doesn't overheat all the time.
Bit of advice: If your manufacturers warranty runs out (a year after purchase) Sony own a company called continuous play, it costs £4.99 a month and if your PS3 should break for any reason they promise to have it replaced in two days!
(It is £4.99 for PS3, to protect PS2 and PSP consoles it is £2.99)

No the PS3 has cooling fans built in.
Just don't block any of the vents on the console or place it near a source of heat (radiator, fireplace etc) and it will be fine.

LOL. sturdy stuff. I propose you lay it down, and place a chilly merchandise below it. that's what I do, and it particularly works high-quality. or in keeping with threat... putting it in the freezer for a pair of hours? Nah. in simple terms make confident it particularly is nicely ventilated. enable the air run through the PS3, sturdy success.
