People hold the door open for you, but you are really far away (they didn't really need to hold it for you) and then you have to speed walk so you won't be a jerk and have them standing there for five minutes. People always do that to me. Just go ahead. Unless you see I some physically deficiency, I can probably make it in the door without it being held for me. It's just annoying...

I don't think it's polite. I could see if I was right behind someone and the door was going to hit me in the face, but otherwise it's just not necessary.

Hate is a strong word especially for a stranger who is going out of their way to be nice. I always find it nice and if I am too far I just smile and mouth thank you whether they wait for me or not. If they are willing to open and hold the door for you they probably don't mind it. What I hate are people like you who find something so wrong in an act of chivalry. In this world where people are losing manners, there are some who actually don't appreciate it. I have to say a lot of the answers agree. I don't know why people Always do that for you when you sound so ungrateful of their kindness. So for your sake, I hope they stop and slam the door in your face instead. You're not worth the trouble.

When that happens to me I pretend like I'm digging in my pocket or purse or using my phone. Then I smile and say thank you and tell them I will be a minute. People on this board are write about you griping. I think you prob would gripe if it was something else too. Being irked by the little things is a part of everyone's human nature (even the same ones putting you down for your comment) but posting and sharing with the world is just spreading the evil that we all (hopefully) work on to control! Good luck in this world if that is a gripe you feel compelled to type out and post.

I think that it is nice when people hold the door open for you. I'm sorry it makes you feel annoyed. But, with chivalry being dead, I love it when people are polite. If you are far away, and they hold the door, it generally means they are trying to be polite (or they think you are hot) and they aren't in any big rush.
Be grateful and always say thank you!

Of all the things going on in the world.....you complain about a kind gesture? Trust me....tis better to tolerate this than to have the door slammed in your face or mowed over by people who can't seem to see you there. Consider yourself lucky that someone noticed you and extended a kindness. I suppose nobody HAS to be nice......but sure makes the world a better place. There's just some people who can't be pleased. There was a woman in a stores wheelchair trying to slide off a big bag of bird seed into the basket. I needed birdseed as well and tried to help her......she whapped me with her purse......talk about annoying.

I totally understand. But don't you also hate it when you're the one holding the door and you don't really want to stand there and wait but the person is walking up expecting you to hold it for them. That's annoying too.

That is pretty annoying. Yeah, it's polite, but its rushing you. I think that if you had a lot of stuff in your hands and you don't have a free hand to open the door then it's fine.

I would call this that they have no respect for themselves. In the humanity each and every person should respect the sentiments of others and particularly with a handicap person , sympathy is added
