How old is it? It maybe worth more than a dollar. The Post Office has stamp machines that dispense coin dollars as change. Coins before 1935 are Silver. The Susan B. Anthony's are clad and only worth a dollar. Look at a coin book before you spend it.

You sure got a lot of answers and the ones that said yes are right. Unlike a lot of countries the U.S. has never demonetized any of their coins or money. Now that is Federal monies. There were problems with the monies that state banks printed and back in the colonial days before we became a nation and had our own mint. All U.S. currency is spendable but the old coins and bills are worth more as a collector item.

As others have said, yes, they are legal tender. However, I once tried to use a coin dollar at a store and the woman told me "Sorry, we don't accept those." I was shocked! I said, "You don't accept... money?" and she looked a little embarrassed and just apologized. But she still wouldn't take it!
So it is possible that after everyone here says "yes" that you still might get a funny look from the first person you try to spend it with. But that's their weirdness, not your trying to do something wrong!

Yup, those Susan B. Anthony dollars still are legal, as are the $2 bills and JFK half dollars. Nothing issued by treasury ever ceases to be legal tender, although if you have something like a "silver certificate" bill (quite old by this time), once it reaches a bank it will be removed from circulation. You see, they don't want to have to actually hand over that equivalent silver to you!

Yes they still work and they are accepted everywhere.
Dollar coins have been minted in the United States in gold, silver, and base metal versions. Silver dollars, the first dollar coin issue, were minted beginning in 1794.
The term silver dollar is often used for any large white metal coin issued by the United States with a face value of one dollar; although purists insist that a dollar is not silver unless it contains some of that metal. Gold and gold-colored dollars have also been produced by the United States. The Sacagawea and Presidential dollars are usually referred to as "golden", despite not containing any gold, as they are a "golden" color.
Dollar coins have found little popular acceptance in circulation in the United States, despite several attempts since 1971 to phase in a coin in place of the one dollar bill. This contrasts with currencies of many other developed countries, where denominations of similar value exist only in coin, such as the Canadian loonie and toonie, British 50 pence coin (as well as the 1 pound and 2 pound British coins), the 1 and 2 Australian Dollar coins, the 50 New Taiwan dollar coin, 100 Japanese yen coin, 1 euro coin and 2 euro coin. These coins have largely succeeded because of a removal (or lack) of their corresponding paper issues, whereas the US is resistant to the removal of the dollar bill from production and circulation.

Sure, it's legal tender.
In my opinion they should sack the paper one dollar bill and only use the coins.
