well if your going to an art gallery you have to wear something thats unique,artsy,elegant,and adorable which is what the 2nd dress has written all over it as for shoes wear wedges and a cute long pearl necklace you can get anywhere like at wetseal or claires for cheap and also get a simple bracelet that matches the necklace;you can look for the wedges at payless for cheap if you want because they do have some pretty cute heels there,hope i've helped in someway lol try looking at an artist called "Black Rain" the styles so vintage and cute,lol and congrats on your work making it into the gallery,im more of a photographer and am studying fine arts anyways good luck!

I think it must date back to the 1920s when Coco Chanel made the 'little black dress' popular for the evenings. Gallery openings were always in the evening, so it would be tux for him and black dress for her, and they'd go out to dinner afterwards. There certainly is a bit more colour around now, but there are a few men who still like to wear a black roll-neck sweater to a show.

Works of art tend to have lots of color in them and at an art gallery you are moving around a lot and standing next to various works.

Black is a neutral color and it does not detract from the work being shown. You also don't clash with any.

Not kosher to be mistaken for a work of art.....

makes the people be the background with black clothes on and the art to standout more. You don't notice the black much and you can concentrate more on the art itself.

Yes, It probably has to do with the fact that colourful clothing will destract the viewing of the pictures.

I think black just makes things look more professional and glitzy. I dont know if it is a faux pa to not do so.

because when you went to the art gallary you saw every body wearing black. thats because they feel how the art feels.
